Looking For Help With A Price On A Tracker

Featured Replies

Hey guy's I've been lurking here for some time now but this is my first post. I'm going to look at a 1988 bass tracker Tournament TSX with a 60 evinrude and a trailer. I've been looking at a getting a bass and this one is in my hunt.comes with nothing besides the boat, outboard, and trolling motor. I'm not up on older rigs, and trying to find a fair value.

I'm hoping some one can give me a value, I'm attaching the picture's I was sent. I will be going to look at it this weekend. I appreciate any help or advice.

Sorry I could only get one photo to upload, but it looks like the outboard will need a tune up and the carpet replaced.

Suggested list price is $6,000. Average retail is $1700. This is from the NADA Guides.

So does that mean $6k is a fair price or that $1700 is a fair price? there is a big swing there in price.

$6k would be a dealer price, which would be for a flawless boat. $1.7k would be roughly what you should be looking at price wise.

The area you live can really mess with what people will value/sell for.  NADA lists that boat @ 1700 but in my area of the country the asking price would be around 3000.  It stinks, but its something to factor in.

Is the boat on craigslist?  Or are there others on craigslist that are comparable?  If you can find similar, for less than what is being asked for you could use it as ammunition to get the seller to move a bit.

All that said, I'd be thinking around 2k, hoping to get under that.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help and advice on the topic. I think I will bring this information to the seller and see if they are willing to work with me, if not the search will continue.

Condition means a lot in the value of the boat. Just looking at that one picture supplied a previous owner added a storage up front which could be nice, but you can tell the quality of work isn't very good. The fact that it needs a "tune up" is a big drawback. I'm not going to say that there is for sure anything wrong with it, but a lot of times if a seller is saying that it should be translated into "motor is not running correctly". Either way you'd be smart to have a reputable mechanic check it out before purchasing. As more and more of those little hints are stung together, it kind of starts to paint a picture for you on that boats history. Again, not saying it's bad especially since that's there is very little evidence, but just from the few things I do know make me think it may not be in the greatest shape. I'd say if it was in great condition it'd be worth probably $2300-2500. With the bad carpet and iffy motor it'd be right around that $1200-$1500

GO GET A COMPRESSION TEST!!! before you do anything,

Thanks for the help everyone. I brought my case and didn't see much in pursueing the boat as I feel the price was not gonna get to where I needed it to be. I think I made the right descision in just looking farther.Eventually, I'll find the one for me. It just sucks because I know the season is coming up soon.

It sucks, but it's better to wait and buy the one that's right for you instead of ending up buying something that you're not going to be happy with.

Agreed.  I'd rather shop around longer than be home cussing out my boat because I found some other issue on it, or having to cut other things out of the life budget because I overspent on a boat.  You'll find a deal that fits right.
