Deer Creek Lodge In Ky Report

Featured Replies

Me and my brother fished deer creek lodge in KY which is South of Evansville about 40 miles. They have a 30 acre lake filled with the Tiger Bass (Fla/Northern Cross) We had several goals i mind I wanted to see how the lake compared to our private lake and I wanted to see how the tiger bass compared to our bass plus we wanted to try and get some big fish.

The people were great and the lodge was 5 stars all the way very nice operation.  The lake is as I said 30 acred and filled with stumps and standing timber there are stumps just below the water all over the lake. Those people that just like to bass fish ever so often to relax this would not be a great place for them it's for the serious bass fisherman. My brother bent 7 hooks for example and we got stuck on stumps 8 or 9 times they told us before we went out that it will happen.

They provided a 18 foot boat with foot control trolling motor.  We fished on Monday and the end of the week before they had 6 inches of rain and the morning we fished a storm came through and dumped a lot more rain we waited a hour and 1/2 for the storm to pass then went out.(the temp had also dropped about 8 degrees from the day before) We started out pitching soft plastic into the timber and got a few fish but it wasn't working as well as we would like.  About lunch time we got a 4 pounder and though things would pick up the next hour was slow.  I said I'm going to fish like we did on our lake and we put on some KVD crankbaits left the timber and went to a end of the lake that had the dam and less timber and started throwing crankbaits. The action really picked up then and we got a few very nice fish in the boat.  we ended up with 15 fish for the day a 6 pounder 2 4 pound bass and a few 3 pounders.  My brother hooked a monster fish off the dam that was far bigger then anything we had got so far and he got it about 70% to the boat and it wrapped him around a cement block under water and he couldn't get the fish in.

I have no doubt that with a little better conditions you could boat 50 bass in a day here and have a good shot at a trophy fish.

Sounds like you guys did pretty good for the conditions. Water looks pretty stained.

Water was stained pretty good had tons of flooding we saw water more stained at some of the public lakes though.  If we would have started fishing the pattern we finished with I think we could have got 20.

Why didn't you fish the crankbaits around the timber, isn't that kind of ideal?

We did fish them around the timber and other baits we spent hours around the timber and got a few fish but when we moved to other parts of the lake that were not as deep we found more fish...
