Bass Pro Extreme Reel Help

Featured Replies

I am trying to dial in my older extreme reel. When I take the side plate off this is what i see. How do I adjust these brakes to help me stop getting birds nest and still get a good cast? I have adjusted the dial on the other side of the reel to just let the 3/8Oz spinnerbait fall lightly to the floor without over running the spool.

The small plastic collars move in or out, adjust them in pairs.

When I move them to the out position the side cover will not go back on because the stick out so far.

Nudge them in slightly before you fit the sideplate on. Should fit.

also appears I am missing one of the small white pieces. I bought this from a friend so who knows if he had tinkered with it. But will missing on effect casting at all?

check them with a slot driver using the blade to push slightly at the tip of the block pins to make sure they are seated all the way. Some will move over time have seen it on all the Curado series reels and some of the older Citica'.

Your missing one of the brake blocks, If they are flush (no movement) set up your brakes like this:

In an I  - 2 blocks on four blocks off - Light Spool Brakeing

In a Y  - 3 blocks on 3 blocks off -  Medium Spool Brakeing

or an  X  - 4 blocks on 2 blocks off  - Heavy Spool Brakeing..... :Victory:

Good Luck & Tight Lines  :fishing1:

awesome thanks! I will have to give this a try tonight and see if I can get this reel to really throw the spiinerbaits out there with ease

My older-style BPS Extreme was my first bc reel. It d**n near caused my to give it up and just stick with spinning. I'd say, on average, I had a problem at least every third cast. But, the stubborn person that I am, I bought a BPS PQ, realized life could work with bc reels, and now I have a nice selection of bc reels and use them more than my spinning gear. I went back to the BPS Extreme several times last summer, and though I've gotten pretty good with bc reels, I still have issues with that one. Stick with it.

I love this reel to death lol but i tore it down to clean it and made the mistake of not noticing my brake positions. I think I only ever had one birds nest before messing with it. If you want to sell yours I would buy it thats how much I like this one lol. Like it better than my mid range Daiwa and abu

Try to find a replacement for the missing brake. Its minute but will cause unbalance. I would recommend starting with the X ( every other brake up) as RM stated and as you get better, go with the I ( two opposite brakes up). Always use your thumb as another brake also. Practice as much as you can.

When i put ant setting of brakes up it has WAY to much tension. It leads me to think they just arent working right
