So I'm getting a new boat within the next month or so, woohoo! One of my friends would like to buy my old jon boat, I'm wondering what you guys think would be a fair price.

 

It is a 1980s? 10ft waco jon boat, has wheels on the back that can be flipped either way, would come with a 1999 2hp Johnson that runs beautifully, 2012 Minnkota Endura 35lbs, and clamp on swivel seat.

 

What do you guys think?

My area, probably no more than $600-$700

Perhaps you could find it in yourself to simply give it to your friend.

Ask the dealer who is selling you your new boat what the trade in value of your old boat would be. That wholesale value would be a fair price to sell to a friend. If it is a good friend consider A-Jay suggestion .

Around $500 but boat karma goes a long ways.

When I said new boat, I meant new to me, selling my boat would go towards getting the used boat I'm buying rigged up with trolling motor etc., so I can't really afford to give it away, but he is a good friend, who could really use a boat, so I will offer it to him at a below average price.

I'd say probably $500 as a friend discount. It's worth about 6 to 7 hundred depending on time of year.

I'd sell it to him at a very good price (or free) with the stipulation that he calls you everytime he goes fishing...

Depending on the size of your new boat, the little ten footer might be really handy to keep for use on lakes where access is limited.  Maybe you could keep it and just lend it to your friend now and then?  This is, I think, what I would do.  But if you want and or could use the money, maybe ask 500 bucks and let him feel good when he talks you down 50 or a hundred dollars.

In my experience, selling a boat to a friend is a bad idea.  If I had it to do over again, I'd keep the boat.   If storage isn't an issue, keep the boat.  Or let your buddy "borrow" it on a temporary/permanent basis.
