DD22 producers?

Featured Replies

Never have done this before, but I am going to try to fish deep crankbaits this summer. I have decided on DD14 and DD22's as the crankbait I want to throw. I have an Avid MHMF rod and I fish mainly clear lakes, with the occassional stained lake ever so often. So for those of you that use the Norman DD crankbaits, my question to you is, what are your best producing color or colors. (There are a lot to choose from...)Thanks in advance.

The Lavender Shad color has been my most productive

Lavender Shad, Slick, Rootbeer, Chart/Blue, Red ear are my tops.

That sums it up minus the red ear.

I don't own many 14's, but DD22's are my favorite deep diving crank by far. This is one of those lures that I started using right away when I got into bass fishing, and never found a reason to switch. My absolute favorite color I cannot reveal  :), but below are my other favorites:

Natural Shad

Nutter Shad

Mountain Doo

Black/blue

and the list goes on and on...

BTW one other thing...change out the hooks right away before throwing any Norman

Maybe its just my own bad luck, but I have a higher number of fish spit a Norman than any other

I have had a lot more fish spit out a norman than any other myself.  But, i use a norman about 99% of the time!  The hooks are not the best.  I switch the hooks out because of the way I fish them.  But it is by far my favorite bait! Its my search bait, catch bait, and clean up bait!  FIRETIGER and custom painted ones are the only ones I really throw.

For where you live and fish a few basic colors are al you need. Buy the ones that look like fish; baby bass, perch, bluegill, etc. Whatever swims in your waters.

Think more about where you throw them and how you present the bait than about the color. Get the depth and the presentation right first, then fine tune with color.

Don't just throw one out and crank it back, unless all you want is wrist exercise. Make it erratic. Crank it down then start varying your presentation. Twitch it, jerk it, yank it, pause it, stop it, speed it up, slow it down, mix it up.

Be prepared to lose a few. Pike like these things too. And, when you're deep cranking in the summer, you're putting a DD22 right where the pike live.
