is recommended for dropshotting in 30ft and up to 70ft of water?

Also, what type of hook and size would you recommend for dropshotting?

Man I would pull my eyes out trying to drop-shot in 70 ft. of water. As a matter of fact, I would pull my eyes out trying to drop shot in the first place!

This "lightest weight you can get away with" is total nonsense in deep water vertical drop shotting, put than sinker on the bottom and keep it there. 30+ FOW? 1/2 oz MINIMUM IMHO, 70 FOW?? IDK, I have never fished that deep, but if I was a 1oz sinker would be my choice.

Umm, for 70ft? probably like a 3/4oz at the least, more like 1oz.

I modified my post for you, but yes the lightest weight you can get away with aka the technique still working properly. The dropshot is a finesse tactic using a light wire hook and light flourocarbon line. So I really don't find it necessary to retract my original statement but since you are older and of course much wiser I did...

You guys are going to think this is crazy, but I fish a 1/4 ounce tungsten weight from 5" of water to 65+ feet! I feel like it is very important to have a nice slow drop

We need some expert advice.

One of my buddies is a drop shot nut and he perfers the 1/2 as his largest DS weight.

This is a technique I stink at so I can't comment.

1-40ft water 3/8oz.

41+ water 1/2oz.

Unless, as one person said, you want a slow fall.

I rarely drop shot in <20' of water and have fished down to 45' using a 1/4 oz. weight, with no problem.

I don't fish much deeper than that due to possible swim bladder damage to the fish, as I'm strictly a CPR fisherman. However, if I were tempted to go deeper, I'd probably opt for 1/2 oz., as well as if I were fishing current.

I drop shot in water up to about 40' deep, and I don't think I've ever used a sinker heavier than 3/8 oz. If the water is deeper than 40', I find somewhere else to fish.

I use a variety of different hooks depending on what bait I'm using, but I do not recommend StandOut drop shot hooks.

I'd use a 1 ounce sinker and a 1/0 dropshot hook. 70 feet of water I think would be hard to tell when the fish eats the bait and starts swimming away... thats deeeep
