Am I rigging this trailer right?

Featured Replies

I decided to give jigs a try this year and I just wanted to see how other people rigged trailers on them. Heres a few ways I thought might have been it but..I wanted to see what other people though as well.

Any help on rigging trailers would be awesome!

Thanks guys.

I think the third one is right. But...not positive.

3rd one is more common considered the right way,but i do rig it in the first picture as well. There's really no wrong way to rig this except backwards. Backwards don't work too well.Long as the claws are facing outwards(In all 3 pictures) it'll work...even upside down.(don't ask how I know).  ;D

Yea...

The third one looked right.

But this is the only jig that I have that has that trailer hook thing on it so I wasnt really sure..

I personally rig it the second way. I think it's easier for the claws to flip up under water giving the bait a little more action.

Like grimlin said there is no right or wrong way tho. Dee Thomas will tell you the 1st way and Denny Brauer will say the second way, so who would you want to argue with? LOL.

X3 for #3

I have a better hookup% than with 1 or 2

Or what if I used the third one and flipped it upside down?

So that way its still secured by the trailer keeper and the claws can get a bit more action.

Fatty side towards bottom as jig is swimming.

Consider cutting a one-inch section of a plastic worm and thread it onto the jig's hook shank and then put the trailer on the jig.

This should help keep the plastic in place.

Depending on the structure you fish and the dead moss on the bottom you will have to decide which of the three options best meets your needs.

Yep. That's how I always did it with pork trailers, and that's how I do it with plastic.

I rig mine like picture #3. I dont have any jigs with those little bait keepers, I would definitely use the bait keeper if it's there. I guess you could do it any way you want, but yeah, #3 looks the best to me. Good luck

All three are correct, each is a different profile and different rate of fall, though I never hook just a tiny bit like in the 1st pic.
