I need to get out on the water and for under a grand. I do almost all of my fishing standing up and am looking for a craft that would allow that. An ascend 128t can handle that but I need to mount a trolling motor and am worried I'd have to fidget with it a lot on the water.

A bass raider with a foot control tm sounds good but it's more unwieldy to transport and less storage.

3rd option is a customized jon boat...more expensive and would require trailering.

Any opinions/ suggestions?

If you have a truck a bass raider is the way to go, i have went from jon boats to kayaks and now to a bass raider 10e and it is by far the best option.I could stand in my jon boat but it had to be on a tralier and with a trolling motor and me the wind was killer, especially standing up.I love kayaks but i don.t like to stand in them, i deal with alot of bass boats and ski boats blowing past me and the wake is no fun standing on a yak. my bass raider i can walk end to end in wind and waves and not think twice, I started with a 40lb minn kota on the back but it is now on the front and i have a mercury 3.3 on the back, i load it into my truck easily with the TM and outboard still on it, i just take the battery out. sit the front on the tailgate, go to the back and push it in, pretty easy to do. i bought the bass raider, trolling motor and battery all new at academy for $900( they also make a bigfoot switch that lets you turn any TM on or off with your foot). i picked up the 2008 Mercury 3.3 used on craigslist, they can be had for under 500. I would def look into the bass raider if i were you.

If you're like me and don't have a truck/tow hitch, and no roof rack to cartop a boat, I use an inflatable. The entire thing (oars, motor, battery, seats, floorboards, pump, all my fishing gear - 3+ rods/reels and 2 tackle bags), fit perfectly in the trunk of my 2008 Chevy Malibu.

 

This winter I pulled the trigger on a Sea Eagle SE-8 Fishermans Dream package (used but in great cond.) for about $200. It offered a great price for basically everything except motor/battery.

 

Just got my MinnKota and battery all set up. The boat has seats and floorboards to stand up in. I've taken it out once to see how stable it is and I was quite pleasantly surprised. It's very stable. You'd have to be a monkey with a fishing rod to tip it over far enough to fall in. Another plus is that it supports up to 950lbs (3 people), so I'm looking forward to my wife and daughter being able to join me on fishing/picnic trips this summer.

I car top this on a compact car - the hull with some stuff I have installed that stays on during transport weighs 44 pounds when I lift it on the roof.  The rest of the gear fits in the trunk and back seat.

 

I stand and fish all day long...

 

I do have a truck and I'm not really interested in inflatables.

Thanks!  You're the first one to comment on the LMB silhouettes on the hull. Yeah - they do look like mission count stencils on WWII bombers. Each silhouette represents 100 LMB caught from the boat.  I'm starting the 5th season using this boat and am up to 2457 LMB caught as of yesterday. Another 43 LMB and I'll apply another decal with 5 more silhouettes to represent 2500 LMB caught...

I had a Wildy Commander 120 that I loved. Wish I still had it!

The outriggers keep the boat from rolling...I just have to keep my balance and not fall out...

 

I've been standing in this boat for 3 seasons now.  I couldn't go back to sitting again - especially on a day like today when there was a bass holding on just about every submerged stump........most of which you couldn't see if you were sitting down....

It's a Radisson.  VERY thin gauge aluminum hull - a still-water boat only. Not the best paddling boat (38" beam and short length) - it's forte is that light weight without going to exotic materials like Kevlar or whatever. The manufacturer actually lists the weight for this model (11'6") as 34 pounds but I weighed mine at 44 pounds the other day and that includes the conduit and extension cables for the TM and a few other bits that stay on the hull during transport. Plus, there may have been some water trapped inside the boat when I weighed it...

I met a guy on the lake Saturday who was fishing from a (motored) Freedom Hawk -12 and absolutely loved it.  My wife did, too.  She was ready to get us two.  I'm not completely sold, but it was certainly intriguing.
