Hey does anyone on here now who builds Daiwa or Shimano reels? Im sure they outsource just curious if anyone knows who either uses as a manufacturer.

Daiwa and Shimano. They don't contract through Banax or Doyo as Okuma, Lews, BPS, or Abu. Daiwa has markets in the US, Japan, and Australia. Shimano in Europe, US, and Japan. Most current Daiwa reels are built in Thailand or China. Shimano in Malaysia. Some of both in Japan, and most parts are made their as well, then assembled elsewhere due to costs.

Yep, Shimano and Daiwa build their own reels.  Like Hogsticker said, some are assembled outside of Japan but they aren't outsourced.

Shimano and Daiwa do not outsource, they make their reels and in case of Daiwa it makes reels for Cabela´s brand and produces reels exclusives for BPS too ( Daiwa reels with Daiwa name not sold anywhere but BPS )

I know shimano manufactures their own reels. They opened a new facility in Malaysia after the big earthquake in Japan a couple of years ago.

The Shimano facility in Malaysia has been in operation for quite some time.  I bought two Citica 200D's (an incredible reel) eight years ago and Malaysia was stamped on the bottom.  According to the Shimano rep (Bantam1), the Malaysian facility is staffed with Shimano trained personnel and it is simply more cost effective for the company to produce some models there. 

 Im sure they outsource...
