Primarily will be throwing weightless flukes and 5" senkos, texas rigs and jigs no bigger than 3/8 oz, and maybe some spinnerbaits here and there.

 

I will be fishing from the shore on small local ponds.

I am open to other rod suggestions as well. Also, does a 6'6" rod and a 7' rod make a difference when using jigs?

I would lean towards a Medium power if you're staying around 3/8 oz. I have the MH *** that you're considering and it's a fairly powerful rod. I have good luck frogging with it. I don't like it for flukes and light Texas rigs unless I'm fishing serious cover. I would be looking at a Medium or light MH like a 3-power Dobyns rod, something rated 1/4 to 3/4 oz. I would also get the longest rod possible as you're shore fishing and longer casts are important.

this I have a hard time throwing senkos and weightless plastics on a mh because the rod just doesn't load enough to really sling it

I'd have to agree with Cgrinder, you might consider a Medium power for what your throwing. I have the *** MH 7'3'' and the  6'9'' Veritas MH and I'd have to say throwing weightless flukes and senkos will be tough since the rod won't load well when you cast something that light. It's not like I haven't done it, but you won't get far. I just got a Crucial M 7'2'' recently for that purpose, much easier to cast weightless plastics.

If you want a shorter rod, look to ohya for the 6'6" MF 1/4-3/4 oz. Quantum Tour Edition Pt.

 

I assume you want to keep price around the $100 mark, so HMG, Tour Edition and Black would be my first choices.

If wanting to stay around $100 I would definitely look at the *** *** Black 7' 1" M/F or MH/F rod. They are great rods.

I think you're on the right track.  I haven't fished any of those rods so I can't comment on them.  The techniques you listed are all MH techniques for me.  Flukes and Senkos weigh enough to throw on MH rods.  I would also lean toward 7' over 6'6".  The longer rod will help with longer casts and better hook sets.

Put that Speed Spool on a 7'1" M/F *** Black and enjoy. The MH is too stiff for weightless flukes, light T-Rigs and 3/8 oz jigs without trailers (I know, because I have one).

If you're willing to pay for a Crucial, I'd look at the Kistler KLX. The 7' MH would be ideal. There's not a better rod for the money, in my experience.

i looked at the klx as well but theyre out of stock on most models. i emailed trey and he said he didnt know when they would do some more but can build a custom klx for u. im considering going that route

My vote would be an *** black in a Med either 7'1" or 7'3"  Lew's and Omens make a great combo we sell a bunch of them together here at the shop.

The 6' 10" Duckett ghost M is a very nice rod for the money and casts the weightless pretty good. Stuck on dry land, know what your talking about. For a second choice (or personal preference) defiantly the ***.

It will have plenty of power to set the hook. The MH rods just won't be able to load any of the lighter lures that you want to throw which will cause you to have more backlashes than you will want to deal with. And anytime that you don't backlash your casting distance will be subpar.

id get a kistler 6'9 mh all purpose rod like the ones made sepificly for tackle warehouse ,,think its the pro series,,,,,

I think I'm going go with a 7'3" Medium Fast *** Black Rod rated for 1/4 - 5/8 oz lures.

 

I'll be primarily using 1/4 or 3/8 oz jigs with small trailers, and weightless flukes.

Agreed.  A 3/8 oz jig w/ skirt and trailer is going to weigh quite a bit more than the 5/8oz weight range of the rod mentioned.

Others saying 3/8 oz jigs + trailer would be a bad idea for that Medium rod. I'm pretty confused. On the review that TackleTour did, it says otherwise.

It looks like that rod might be heavier than it's rating.  If that's the case, you might be good to go.  Most M rods with that line rating aren't heavy enough for jigs.  That particular rod might be an exception.  I would still buy a MH though.
