A frog i can hookup with?

Featured Replies

Is there a frog that weighs at least 5/8oz and has a body softer than a spro bronzeye? Or is there a way that i can make my spro softer so that i can see the whole fish in my hands instead of a splash on the water?

Try taking a look at the strike king Ragetail Frog. Its like a big ssquishy marshmellow, rig it weedless or texas-rigged on a EWG hook

oh sorry i forgot to metion i was lookin for a floating hollow bodied frog.

swamp donkey's are good if you can find them.   I found out if you leave a spro on your dash in your car on a hot day it will soften them up a little, also ive heard of people using hairdryers haven't tryed that myself though.

The phat frog is new,or maybe you had a prototype to make that statement?

i was in florida 2 weeks during winter right after phat was relased and i bought it but river2sea outfishede 3-1 so guess proves it that river2sea is frog to beat

River 2 Sea.

I like both the Bobby's Perfect and the River2Sea.

Haven't tried the Phat Frog but can't wait.

I'm always a bit skeptical when someone says something outfished something else 3-1 or 4-1. If one was working that good, did you put the one back on that was not so hot just for laughs and to try to not catch fish? I usually switch when a bait isn't working.

Now if a buddy was using one and you were using something else and doing better, that might make sense. But still, if I saw my buddy catch 3 to my one, I would switch pretty quickly. I think with frogs, if you put any frog in the right place at the right time, it's gonna get bit. It's about hooking and catching percentage. I think snagproof give you the best hooking percentage as they are a tad softer, but the R2S does walk the frog a bit better.

X2,Well said! I have never fished the river2sea frog so I can't make any pro's or con's about it. But I can say I have fished many hallow frogs and the Bobby's Perfect frog has the very best hookup of any frog that I have fished.

If you are using braid and a suitable rod and still can't hook up with a Spro then you need to work on your hookset.

That said, I fish with Spro and Tru-Tungsten frogs

Stay away from the River 2 Sea Step Wa frog.  It sucks.  You have to get the retrieval speed just right.  Too slow and it has no action.  A bit too fast is dives and spins.  You have to fish it the same speed every time.

i think you need to Waite until after the blow up and actually feel the fish pull, i know its hard trust me but it might just work for ya

R2S is by far the best frog i have ever used period. The keel is more defined so it has more action than others and is easier to get that action. Also a lot softer than any frog i have used. Who ever can't use one of these really needs to practice!

River2Sea Bully Wa .........enough said, now "Get er done."

Now the tru tungsten frogs have a softer body. I read a review on Bass pro and the man said it was now super soft and he almost 99% of the time hooks up.

If your not hooking up your frog fish, I really feel that you need to look inward rather than trying to solve the problem by switching brands.  Has anyone ever seen a bass come up and eat a frog.  It ain't nice.  Do you really think a frog that might be "softer" is going to increase your hook up ratio?  Were talking about a fish that can break a hard plastic bait in half because of how hard they eat it.  Don't tell me that your not hooking them up because the frog is to hard.

Work on your hookset.  Most people think they are hitting the fish hard, but they aren't setting it nearly hard enough.  You gotta set it with meaning.  Switch brands if you want, but if you don't know how to set the hook right, your gonna keep missing em.

So true. Some people have no idea what "crossing their eyes" even looks like, let alone how to do it properly. (I'm not speaking of anyone here in particular or anything, just making a general statement)

when i have this problem i do two things add a # 4 or 6 triple grip hooks over the hooks on frog and also just open the hook opening a little, not to much and set hook as on a worm they say wait not me maybe iam slow

I was in the middle of them summer and did a head to head between R2S and Spro. I'm buying R2S.

The River2Sea Bully Wa has conquered my tackle box this past year. I had issues with the Spro frog at times, but my consistency improved with the Bully Wa. I still fish frogs from both companies.

Now that the Diver Frog is out though, River2Sea has the upper hand completely.

To the angler who said the Bully Wa flipped and dove nose down: Are you fishing straight braid?

Mono and Fluoro leaders would eliminate that issue if you are fishing straight braid.
