I lost my last pre rigged c rig 2 weeks back and am thinking about getting a couple more, but before I do am just curious how many of you use pre rigged ones or rig them yourself. I'm thinking I might just get the stuff to rig one myself, that way I'd be able to make extras, and make it how I want.

I'll be fishing really clear water, about 10 ft of visibility, not sure if that makes a difference on what I make the C rig with, but if it does what should I use for really clear water like this?

Make them yourself and store them on the cardboard from a

roll of toilet paper. Hook the roll, wrap the line around and cut

a small  hole to push the swivel through.

The choice of leader can be light or heavy, but generally 12 lb

fluorocarbon is pretty popular. I use #8 Seaguar InvizX with

heavier mainline.

Nope, standard rig: egg weight, bead, swivel, leader & hook.

Depending what type of bottom or structure, you can use tube weights or barrel weights. I perfer tungsten because when it's matched with a brass bead and a plastic bead it works perfectly cause it gives off better sound and vibration from the clacking of the weight and beads. Nothing wrong with lead tho it just gets beat up alot.

I'd use a longer leader in clear water tho if you're using mono or braid. But if you're using Vanish, Invisx, or anyother good fluoro I don't think it needs to be longer.

You'll wonder why you brought pre-made C-rigs after you make your own.It's ridiculously easy and much cheaper.

Good tip using the tolient paper cardboard roll. never thought of that one. 

I never understood those pre-made "easy" c-rig things. You still have to tie two knots. And the line can't pass through the weight, which IMHO is a critical part of a c-rig,  when you get into using bigger 3/4's and 1oz + sinkers. They are still made though, so some one likes them.

Are most of you using flourocarbon leaders? I've always used mono leaders on Carolina rigs. Since flourocarbon sinks, wouldn't that keep your bait dragging on bottom?

I use mono for the same reason. You want your bait off the bottom as much as possible. I also try to use plastics with less salt.

It's easy to make awesome carolina rigs. Some barrel sinkers and a bag of beads from the local craft store. I use 12lb "Big Game" mono to make mine.
