I'm a Powerbait worm man. Mostly use 7 inch worms but thinking about starting to use 10 inchers to get a bigger bite. Am I giving up bite volume for size by doing this? Thoughts?

Slightly but I wouldn't say hard yes. I have had plenty of smaller fish hit a 10.....and plenty of big fish hit a 7. a 10 will keep the dinks away though. 

I use the 12" power worms from Berkley with a 6/0 EWG hook and I've got tons of bass on them. I use them the most during the really hot summer days though. I believe it does result in less fish but bigger fish. But as in less fish I don't mean your only gonna catch 5lb+ bass on them ive caught plenty of 2lb bass on 12' worms

Makes sense. I wonder if it makes a difference in northern latitudes vs southern?

I use 10" worms as soon as it gets hot.  Not sure if deters smaller fish or not, as I've caught plenty of small fish on them too.  Some not as long as the worm itself.  I fish lots of heavy weeds in the summer.  I think the larger size helps the fish find the bait a little easier.  Live in Wisconsin, so they like them up here too... Why not branch out and try other brands and worm styles, there is a whole world of worms waiting to be discovered.

For me, I think it's a confidence thing. I have tried other brands, styles, etc. Just have always had the most success with Powerbait worms.

I use ribbon tails often. I usually rig them Texas rig them, weightless. I'll add some weight if I'm working deeper water or heavier weeds.

You generally fish ribbon tails the same as other worm lures, I just like them on those days I feel the bass want a little more movement in the lure.

It doesn´t matter, that is not the way to get a big bite, a pound bass can easily bite and swallow a 10" worm.

How are the Zoom Ol Monster worms, just bought 2 bags of 10 1/2. I really want to concentrate on plastics, irritate some bass.

I had a 13" pickerel grab a 12" black shad colored culprit worm by the head  were the hook was. I was reeling it in as he took a shot at it.  Then a bass hit my live bait night crawler as I reeled it in. Seeing this told me the fish wanted something moving. We both put on mepps spinners and or bass fishing with lures started.

I've caught 8" bass on a 12" worm and 8lb bass on a 4". When they're hungry, they don't care.

Big Momma - it's 11" straight tail that's segmented so you can downsize easily - a very very effective worm anywhere bass live.

Like the G-Man says : " Ain't no mirrors down there - bass don't know how big or small they are " !

I have had dinks bite a Rapala bigger than they were ...Rig a 10 inch worm with a 5/0 worm hook and up to a 3/8th oz. bullet weight then swim it or hop it on the bottom . Green Pumpkin , Water Melon Red Flake , Junebug and Black with Blue Flake will serve you well (depending on conditions) . Zoom 'Ole Monster is comparable to a Berkely Power Bait 10 inch worm - but I would add a little of your favorite scent to the Zoom bag to knock back the strong plastic smell Zoom baits tend to have .

Bass of all sizes love the 10" Strike King Rage Anaconda here in Northern IL, even the ones barely bigger then the worm.

 

 

Little fish try to eat huge baits. Big fish can and will eat even bigger baits. Doesnt mean thats what they always want but 10inch worms are that happy medium imo. Its good to have 4" through 12" selections.

I appreciate the input. For the record, I agree and understand that smaller fish will eat large baits...just as bigger fish will eat small baits. Was just trying to get a feel from those who use larger worms if they felt their average fish size went up.

On average the size goes up but the amount usually goes down.
