Which Rod/reel?

Featured Replies

Het guys I'm looking into getting an all around rod and reel setup for around $200.

I love my 7' MH Veritas paired with my bass pro qualifier baitcaster. I find myself using this combo more than some of my more expensive combos.

Look for a Diawa tatula... Around 100$ or little more... Maybe a Bps carbon lite or like robster80 said a falcon.... Look for used like new stuff and get better stuff for less! Plenty of choices for 200$ out there! Good luck!

X2.  I often buy used for that very reason.

All around set-up? If your looking for versatility and only using just one combo for everything, then look no further than a spinning gear. 2500 size reel with a 7'0 foot rod medium-heavy action. 30 pound braid. Bass Pro Shops and cabelas have very good gear for less, because theirs no middle man.

I have a few spinning setups, I would like to also get an all-around bait caster

Ok, In that case, a 6 gear ratio reel with a 7' rod. but you can get The bass pro Qualifier reel and the XPS Extreme rods - they are both on sale at basspro shops right now. you will actually spent less then 200 bucks on that combo saves you money for line.

A 7 ft med hvy fast action duckett ghost or st croix mojo bass with a 6.4:1 lews speed spool would b a great all around combo for $200

Can anyone comment on the XPS Extreme rod vs the carbonlite that comes with the Pro Qualifier combo?

Buy a Daiwa Tatula for $100 and stick it on a 7'0" Medium Heavy Duckett Ghost. The 100% best you can do for $200

You could buy an *** and have a better rod.

Well, This is tough to argue, If you like the handle on the *** and it does not blister your hand then yes, It is a fine rod, The rod as a whole is good. I think the blank on the Ghost is better than the *** and the handle for SURE is better on the Ghost. The eye's on the *** are better and it is a nice blank on it as well. I can not fish the *** because the handle is so bad. Where the *** out shines the Ghost is on the Rod Eye's. While I am a Duckett fan I hate the Eye's on the Ghost rod's. The *** is an awesome rod, I can not knock it down at all but If I had to choose either the *** or The Ghost rod, Well, I think every one knows I would get the Ghost but the *** is not bad if you can deal with the handle.
