Help Needed On Rods Delivered

Featured Replies

I just had 2 rods delivered that I ordered.  One is an *** Black 7' MF spinning and the other is a Powell Diesel 765 MHXF.  Both rods, about 2/3 of the way up the rod are slightly bent.  When I say slightly I mean somewhere between 1/16" to 1/8" off center at the tip of the rod.  Is this an issue I should be concerned with or is it a non issue?  Thanks for the help!

Were they shipped to you in a tube?  Was the tube damaged any or did it show any signs of any damage?

Not uncommon for blanks to have a slight curve. Won't hurt anything. At the same time, you paid money for a proper rod, so if it bugs you I'd ask for replacements.

They were shipped in a tube from TW. No damage to the tube. Now that I look at them it is probably closer to the 1/16" off center.

I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Are the blanks bent or the guides on crooked?

Call TW.

Then I wouldn't worry about...

The guides are all straight, it is the blank that is slightly bent. It is easiest to see when I am not looking down the side with the guides on it. I castes the diesel and everything seemed fine. I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't cause excessive wear or any other issues.

There is a not so old saying in the world of archery in regards to carbon arrows, 'if it ain't straight, it's broke? Don't think that that applies here but it sounds good. LOL

If I had rods that were 'bent', I would send them back.

Ice seen very few factory rods with a 100% straight blank. If you exchange them you may wind up with some that are even more crooked

Absolutely, you could be sending rods back all summer long and still never wind up with perfection.

P.S. caught bass yesterday with a rod that just slightly veers off to the right, from the top. Like you said, about a 1/16".

I can count on one hand how many blanks I've built on that were dart straight. Almost all blanks have a slight curve to them. Most of what I've used has been between 1/4" and 3/4" out from butt to tip when spun. If its bent in a couple different directions, then send it back. Companies are usually good about building on straightest axis, but some just be built however.

Thanks guys. These were the first rods that I have ever noticed it on. Took them both out today and they fished great.
