Ledges On Topo Maps

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me a good idea of what a ledge looks like on a topo map? Pictures would be awesome.

When the lines are really close together that usually will show a drop off.

Here's a video that shows what it looks like:

The closer the lines are together the steeper the drop, try and find an area that has a big depth change and really close lines..... and you will hammer them

They look like a bar code. Not to be confused with a QR code.

Hi kellenMO,

If you want a ledge you need to look for the close contour lines like mentioned but find spots that has close lines above, then a wider gap with close lines below.  The wider gap will be a ledge.
