Which do you prefer for leader and why?

Tried searching the fourms and didn't see anything...

I prefer the albright...my buddy like the Uni. Both of us have had no issues

I do find the albright goes through the guides better on the rare occasion that i reel the knot into them. If i should reel the knot intonthe guides i always remove it before casting.

As for strength i have seen both knots hold up to 130+lb tarpon...if a bass can fight and pull like a tarpon id like to see it.

I like the Alberto (modified Albright) simply because it is a thinner, neater knot.  However, I can tie the double Uni much easier.  Guess I need to watch a couple videos of others tying the Alberto.  Of course my fingers aren't as nimble as they use to be.  

I prefer uni-knot. Its easier and simple. Most people here use it so i learned it.

Albright is the strongest for sure Aaron martens has a video where he talks about using it and he said he uses the uni uni with lighter braid on spinning reels and ties the Albright with the heavier braid. I have been using the Albright for over a year now on light line applications 16lb sx1 to a 8lb sniper FC leader and it's never let me down.

Uni-to-uni is easier to tie, IMO, but the Albright is a better knot, slimmer, and wicked strong.

 

I tie the Albright (technically a modified Albright) with about 10-17 wraps up the line, 6-10 wraps back down depending on the diameter of the line (and if it is a slick line, the slicker the line, the more wraps).

Almost anyone I've known that has swore by the Uni to Uni connection has been met with failure, only to try the modified Albright (Alberto) knot and never look back. I love the Uni knot, but not in this case.

Iv use uni knot and it never failed me ever in my life of using it. That test might be accurate, but if you use the right line with properly tied, It will never fail you. I use these knots in saltwater for 30 snook and 100+ pound tarpon. Any knot will work if tied properly. So everything else its just preference to me.

Like already stated check out knot wars. I've tied both and the Albright has always performed better for me hands down.

I don't often tie line to leader but when I do it's an alberto, it's a terrific knot.  I do fish saltwater every day and have caught many snook,tarpon and jacks.  Most of the time I'm using a swivel and always with no more than 20# braided line, we can discuss those knots another time.  The alberto has replaced the bimini as the go to saltwater knot, it's slimmer and every bit as strong and much easier to tie.  I do quite a bit of freshwater bass and peacock fishing as well, I don't find any knot not being strong enough if tied correctly.

I'm a uni-to-uni guy as well.  7 wraps on either side works for me.  I have tried the Alberto (Modified Albright) and the regular Albright.  I just suck at tying it so I revert back to the uni.

Don't know what the drag is, I set it by feel.  But I do know with many of the fish I catch I'd be as concerned with my line breaking as much as a knot not holding if the drag were too tight.  Much of my fishing is targeting fish that weigh more than my line pound test.  A case in point is when I'm not using braid but 14# copoly, the fish caught average 40-50" and seldom weigh less than 20#, caught in heavy current.  That knot is not an alberto but a plain old fashioned clinch knot, TIED CORRECTLY, yes knots and drag are quite important.  How hard do those fish fight, all I can say is come down and land one, you can use my rod and reel.

I started with the double uni when I started with leaders. It served me well. Then I came across the alberto knot, and I have not looked back since. Nice strong small knot. 

I'm also a fan of the Alberto knot for leader joints. It's not technically a knot; more like a braid than a knot. Just like the old dime store Chinese handcuffs (fingercuffs) we use to buy as a kid (or get free in CrackerJack boxes!). Once you tie one you see what I mean. I do not like hearing the Uni-Uni joint click through the guides on the cast either. Can't convince me all that clicking isn't causing some wear on that joint.

The only time I ue an alberto is when I use a rod with microguides any other time I use a double uni. In my experiences the alberto broke off more while the uni almost never did but this may be due to me not tying it correctly

Can't beat an Alberto, small and strong.

I haven't had a Uni fail yet with 10# Powerpro and 6# leader, even when snagged. The leader always breaks near the hook. I'll keep using it til it gives me a reason to change.
