Will small framing nails be sufficient to fish this rig with a 5 in senko? What do you guys use that fish this technique?

I've always used framing nails. I have access to more than I could ever want anyway so it only makes sense to use them for free. 

 

Yes, the nail wait works great in a 5" senko. I honestly don't nail wait senkos that often. Zoom trick worms and Berkley Bottom Hoppers are what I neko rig /w nail weights more often than not. I've been using it more and more over the past year /w good results. 

1" paneling nail have little ridges that hold better than framing nails.

I use them to make the worm fall horizontal!

Catt is spot on. I should have stated that paneling nails are the way to go over regular framing nails/side cutter route. They will stay in the worm very easily.

Nail weighted senko is on the DX743.

 

Nail waited trick worm/bottom hopper I throw on a legend xtreme 69mlxf on 7# fluoro. Seems the weights I throw are on par /w the small 1/8oz range drop shot weights and lighter.

What's the neko rig

I've just started using this technique over the past month. I'm not sure if I can go back to a weightless wacky worm honestly. I rarely fished it because it was just way too slow for me. The nail weight allows it to fall faster and it flat out catches fish. Out of 11 fish today 7 were on it. I found some screws that I had that weighed 1.5 grams and I just cut the heads off using a Dremel tool. I also use an O ring and hook the worm perpendicular like in this article from Gary Dobyns.
