Im from Pennsylvania and I want to get into frog fishing. Can someone tell me good retrieves and lures to use. Im having trouble walking the frog with a booyah pad crusher, and there are no takers. Can I just reel it in slow and steady, twich it in? Anyone have lures or retrieves that are successful?

I have the same problem. Can't walk the dog with a frog to save my life. It just more goes in little jumps forward.

Keep a little slack in the line before each twitch and give it a quick snap and immediately throw slack back in the line, it should walk perfectly. If you really want a bait that walks you might want to check out the Spro Bronzeye shad. I like the Spro Bronzeye frog and the popping frog along with the H2O frogs. The smallest size H2O frog is a killer when they're being hesitant with normal sized frogs. 

It's all in the wrist, and you have to keep slack in the line. The twitches have to be pretty subtle.

Try toads also. Rage and warrior are my favorites. Ribbits also are good but a bit heavier. Steady retrieve similar to a buzz bait. When they strike freeze until you feel weight on the line or start to see your line move. I like them much better in the slop and my hook up ratio is assomely better.

You need to use very gentle downward twitches, and give the bait slack so it can turn. If it's just coming straight, it usually means you aren't giving it slack after the initial twitch. The Booyah Pad Crasher is one of the easiest frogs to walk. As previously mentioned the Bronzeye Shad has a very exaggerated walking action. You can catch them on other retrieves, but walking seems to be the most productive  to me anyway.

You can always use a Stanley Ribbit, Z Man Hard Leg Frogz or a Strike King Rage Tail Toad at a

steady retrieve. They work great for me.

This is the key.  Make sure the line goes slack for just a split second before the next twitch, and getting down that cadence, power input, duration, timing and all that jazz are really subject to the individual specifics of your setup and what you're throwing.  

 

 

It's just going to take a bunch of practice.  Fortunately practicing is a blast

yes bass will hit a frog that is just jerked/hopped. i'm far more concerned with walking the dog with a spook than a frog.

There are several pure walking hollow bodies - z walker? and the fish arrow jack are two that are simple to walk - trimming legs and such will make many frogs easier to walk - I use a hopping - pull - pause at different speeds - most of the time it is more effective than walking - not always but most of the time it works better for me.

You gotta love frog fishing - so many frogs - so many retrieves - so much fun - invent your own retrieve - and don't forget to set the hook.
