Most of my rods right now seem to be Medium heavy. My question is how many is too many. Right now I have a 7'2" cumara for jigs, 7'2" crucial for trigs, and a 6'9" Veritas for spinners/buzzers. Is it redundant to have 3 setups with basically the same specs? They only difference between the Shimanos is on is fast and the other xfast. Should I try to trade or sell one or keep it as is. Thanks

You could always post it in the "flea market" forum and see if you get any favorable trades.

I had the Veritas on there but never got what I thought was an equal trade offer. I was just curious if I was over thinking what rods I carry

Well if you want to throw 3 different types of line in 3 different lb tests with 3 different gear ratios, but all need same action, and all need to be tied on ready to go at a moments notice.... Then no, no problem in my eyes.

Depends on techniques, weight of lures and kind of cover you fish.  Three MH rods may fit you just fine.  I have more MH rods than any other power.  They are very versatile.

 

Also as above poster stated, you might use braid on one, mono on a second and fluorocarbon on the third.....or any other combination you'd like.

You can't own too many rods.  You can't own too many reels.  Can't do it.  The idea that some of the actions on some of the rods that you own are similar is moot.   Go back to the basic premise - i.e.  "You can't own too many rods"  The way you solve this problem is the next time you get the urge to get another rod, get one with an action dissimilar to the ones you've already got.

I have the same thought philosphy.

I used to just have MH rods, as they are a jack of all trades rod. Then I bought a dedicated crank bait rod in the form of a crucial. It worked well, so I got the crucial in a 7'2 MH XF for my worm/jig rod and it works well. So basically now I've got dedicated rods for each lure type I throw except spinner baits and swim baits that I can throw just fine on my worm/jig rod. But is there anything wrong with having a bunch of MH rods? Heck no. Like I said, those rods do everything well and the Veritas is a bit stiffer than your typical MH so it's even more versatile.

Ok, so how many rods can you carry in that yak ?

I can hold 5 with how I have my crate set up currently

I have 15 different set ups on the boat, several of them are MH. cant seem to ever have enough...  I couldn't imagine only having 3 rods to fish with!

Too many rods.......never heard of such a thing.

 

I do have trouble when I have to chose the 4 rods I'll take on my kayak. Usually I go spinner for trigs, H for frogging, M BC for topwaters/cranks, and a MH BC for utility duties (spinner/chatter)

Just dealing with a mh, one can personalize the number to their own needs.  Some feel the need to have more than 1 length, not all mh rods have the same lure weight parameters.  I don't go much further than that but it isn't unusual to have different tapers on mh rods too.  Depending on how technical one chooses to be, you can have a whole bunch of them.

I have 3 MH rods that all have different power despite the same power rating.
