Shimano Reel Series?

Featured Replies

Buying my first baitcaster soon, and i am  looking into shimano reels.  What are the differences between the models.  i see there is a citica g series and there are curado d and e series. what's the difference and if so what series is better.

Thanks in advance.

Citica G and Curado I are the most recent models. The Curado is the more superior reel with more features.

Alot of it is how much are you willing to spend? Then you can decide better on which series you can get into. The money has a lot to do with what feature set you will or are likely to get.

Shimano increments the letter as models are updated. The first number is a general size classification. A trailing "1" means it's a lefty. The last number is retrieve speed. As far as features go, you really have to just compare specs. As far as what series letter is better, that's all debatable, price is certainly a consideration. Is a Citica E better than a Curado G at the same price? Not always an easy question.

And the Chronarch Es are awesome.

There's nothing wrong with the G series, for a first baitcasters it would be a great choice, especially if you are on a budget. Bps has them for 99$.

id rather buy a used E series citica than a new G series. a used citica 200e can be found for 70-80bucks usually

+1 Own 2 and they are rock solid for the $

was really thinking of the citica or a lews reel.  price range would be under 150.  thanks for the info guys.

I have both of the E series and the G series in the curado and the citia line up and while I do lean towards the E series the G series of reels have not been bad to me at all. I think those of us who have fished with the older models just got spoiled and often keep comparing the older series to the newer series, but to each their own. Good luck with your decision.

For $150.00 you can find the Lews Tournament Pro New, a better choice than the Citica in any form and better than the Curado E or G. But like said the Citica and Curado E and G are all available much cheaper, around $100.00 or less, with the E being preferred by most. If I was willing to spend a $150.00 and wanted a Shimano, I would add 25 or 30 bucks to it and get the new Curado I, if not the TP is the best bang for $150.00 new. If you want to save some money instead of the Citica I would buy the Lew's Tournament TS1H you can find it readily for around $110.00, and is unbelievably smooth and cast great, with plenty of power, in any speed you want 6.4, 7.1, http://www.lews.com/casting-speedspooltourneyheck   check it out ,,

Umm

I own a curado e, citica e and Lews TP...i wouldnt say the TP is better than the curado e...very similar? Oh yes. I would say curado e is more user friendly as it is really set and forget. The lews is smoother on retrieve yet more finicky on the cast. The curado e is my better caster (both in distance and control) yet not as smooth on the retrieve as the TP i will also submit that my curado and citica Es require less mainanence that both my Lews TP amd my Revo STX.

Do both rock? Hell yes they do! Id recommend either to anyone!
