My Son's Morning.

Featured Replies

First off, I love fishing with my Son.  I find nothing better than heading out with him, and seeing him do well.

Today is his first Monday off after school ended, so we went to a local spot near where I live. We had been there the past couple days, and the bite has been tough.  He managed to catch something yesterday, while I was skunked, and then the bite shut off completely.  This morning we went out, and threw everything we had at them.  Nothing. Not a bite or nibble. He had managed to snag his line twice under rocks, and once in a tree, losing 3 hooks, plastics etc. Not wanting to tie anything else on and do a little fishing myself, I put a pink fluke on his line. Thinking..."yea, throw this....It shouldn't get hung up in anything"  I quickly showed him how i'd fish it, and let him have at it.  I really didn't expect much, and figured I could get a few more casts in before we had to go.

Less than a minute later he says "I've got something!"

Sure enough, there's a really nice bass heading towards the surface. He reels him in, yup! He landed a really nice 4lber. (Bigger than anything i've caught to date in the year we've been fishing).

I suppose that's Karma showing me anything can happen, even on a lure I had zero confidence in.  haha.

That looks like one happy fella! Nice fish!

Wow he'll have something to brag about to his buddies for a while unless he hooks a bigger one. He's got me beat so far.  :-)

Nice fish!

Congratulations to Your fine Fishing buddy and to you as well for being the perfect example of a REAL Dad ;) your avatar says it all

Awesome post RF, and awesome fish your son caught!  It's the best when your child catches a fish.  I take my daughter fishing every chance that we get, and she loves it.  I see your son does too, by his smile.

I like posts like these.

Congrats to you both, Dad for thinking about the snag-resistant qualities to give it a try and son for disregarding the "girlie" color. Great story and memories you both won't forget.  Don't be surprised if pink becomes his favorite color, lol.  Good luck on your future outings and enjoy your time together.

I bet you will now start throwing a pink fluke when all else fails!

Been there man. Now my son can't stop talking about fishing, and he likes to rub it in.

Yes! Exactly....He asked me if we were going today, and then when I said we weren't he asked if we're going tomorrow.....(Which we probably will)

I walked in after work yesterday and he greeted me with a huge grin on his face..  He knows he's got me beat! Haha.

Congrats man, that's awesome! I can't wait until my little boy is old enough to go with me.

I wasn't ever a believer in pink but I'm starting to get there. I've caught a bunch of fish on a pink trick worm this year and that lead me to making a pink and chartreuse bladed jig. I fished it for the first time the other day and it didn't take long before I was building some serious confidence in it :)

Great story with a great ending.  Congrats to the little guy!
