Oh You Got New Gear? Have Some Rain!

Featured Replies

Never fails. Any time I get some new gear it rains, or storms. Had my Curados for a few days now, and finally my weekend off arrives....and storms are littering my state right now. Tomorrow? Same deal, and Sunday I've got a ton to do so a no go there too. Looking at these Curados is torture.  :punishment:

Can't put a like on your post. That is terrible. You have the same weather system going on that we have here in Cincinnati. Doesn't affect me simply because I am retired, so I do most of my fishing during the week. So, you have my sympathy and I know that doesn't help a bit. Hang in there buddy, it can't rain every weekend,..can it. Let's hope not.

Hootie

It's summer in the south there is always a chance of rain. Strap on a pair and go fishing.

You gonna melt? If there's no lightning, go for it!

Yup.  Best day we (brother-in-law and I) had in Florida a couple years ago was in the rain.  Of course when lightning is in the air I'm outta there!

No doubt, I fish in the rain all the time. I do have this weird thought (fantasy?) that I am going to die from a lightning strike someday. That usually sways my thought process.

Rain gear?

Rain I don't mind, but lightning deters me every time. Plus its about 93 here so rain gear in that heat for me isn't real inviting.

I don't mind getting wet, it's when the wind starts REALLY howling that sucks. Just go fish man!!

Always happens man. Everytime i get some goodies in and want to test them out its either pouring or 30mph winds !! lol

I'm fishing with my Curado and Ci4 tomorrow if that helps!   :laugh5:

Howling wind is just a breeze here in KS. Hard to find a day during the summer when it's not gusting over 30-40mph.

It pored down today in my area and I went out.  Let's just say, it was no fun.  I caught only one fish in 6 hours.  My equipment did not enjoy it either.  I have fished in the rain many times and today had to be one of the worst.  We had heavy rain for about 3 hours followed by swirling winds.  It did eventually slow down but nothing was biting.  I tried everything not even a nimble.  The one I did catch I could have used for bait.

One highlight of the day was I got to use my Marmot Oracle rain jacket and my gortex pants.  Both worked like a champ.  The Marmot jacket was amazing in the rain, breathable and I did stay bone dry.  I did get hot but it was not to bad.

Rain and wind are manageable, but it makes re rigging a PITA and here we always seem to have lighting. No fun holding a graphite rod on an aluminum boat.

Not to mention trying brand new reels that are questionable to begin with, using in rain only complicates the overall analysis
