Smallie Beavers, Baby Rodents, & Mini Beavers In General

Featured Replies

Hey BR,

Did some impulse buying at some point a year or two ago, and stocked myself up with baby rodents at a dollar a pack, and am finding myself a really hard time using it. Two main questions:

1. What hook are you using these smaller baits on?

2. When do you downsize from the original size to the smaller size?

Let's hear how you guys use them!

I drag, swim, and stroke them on an owner ultrahead football. The 1/0 hook is perfect for that size beav.

The smaller size rodents and beavers can be fished fine on 3/0 or 2/0 EWG hook with a bullet weight sinker on it for Texas rigging. I really like the smaller size for jig trailers for 3/8 oz and under jigs. The northstar hair jigs are a good jig to pair these with.

Great as a chatterbait/swim jig trailer.

The best i have found is on a shakey head. Something about it the smallmouth love. The bigger one i fish on a football head and catch some big largemouth. When they are choking crawdads this is my go to bait. In spring i will even throw them weightless to fish that has just moved up in the shallows. Best advice i can give you other than what i just have is just keep throwing it.

I flip and pitch them all the time on a 3/8 tungsten + vmc 3/0 flipping hook(really small for 3/0)

Great stayed on the light Shakey head to

I use a 1/0 ewg on my smallie beavers...they work well!

I drop down the the smallie beaver on pressured waters or in really clear water

I catch more and bigger fish on the smallie beaver than the regular size one.
