Deep Water Bass ?

Featured Replies

what kind of lures work best when the bass are in 20-25 feet of water?

I like a 1/2 to 3/4 oz jig, depending on the wind. And a t-rigged worm never hurts either.

Jigs.

Texas Rig plastics with 3/8 ounce bullet weight. My confidence

If thats not working at all, I go shakey heads.

25-30 feet deep is about average day time depth out west during the summer.

Depends on the forage base the bass are eating and the thermocline depth.

Drop shot and slip shot finesse soft plastics

Jigs

Structure spoons

T-rig

C-rig

Scrounger

Deep crank baits

Slow rolled spinnerbait

A-rig

Swimbaits.

Tail spinner/underspins

These should keep you busy.

First off, are you talking about smallies or largemouth bass? For smallies, I would definitely recommend the drop shot this time of the year. But deeper than the 20 - 25 feet you are talking about. Of course that depends on the clarity of the water.

I've also done well with the drop shot fishing largemouth waters and even those with both species. Jigs can be very effective as well.

Are the fish suapending at that depth or are they holding to structure/relating to the bottom?
