What Fishing Line For Bbz-1?

Featured Replies

Hey guys so I am making out an order from TW right now. I have never thrown swimbaits before but I really want to try. I will be getting a Daiwa DX Swimbait rod and a BBZ-1 6in. I found an older shimano bantam corolis reel of my dads that holds quite a bit of line. Im going to use it for now until I can get something else. What size and type of line should I get for it?

15 -20 lb mono is good for 2-21/2.0z swimmers.

Awesome thanks! Is there a specific mono you would recommend? I found some really old post where everyone was talking about P-Line CXX but I wasnt sure if there was something else now days that would be a better buy. Also I forgot to mention I am getting the slow sink model, Im not sure if that matters or not though.

CXX is very popular for swimbaits because it's tough as nails.  Any good mono will work though.  I've been using Sufix Siege in 20lb with good results on baits up to about 4oz.  I would personally go with 17-20 for the smaller of the big baits.  Check the diameters of the different lines too, you will find that some are much larger than others, CXX being one of the larger ones.

I like 20-25lb Pline CXX Xtra strong or C21 for baits in that size range.

Depends if you want your slow sink bait to fall faster or slower.  Mono tends to float and Flouro sinks.  What you do not want is braid.
