Haven't been able to hook a fish with this yet, had a few hits and was wondering if it's possible to add another hook in the back section? Do you thing it would cause an issue in performance if I got an eye hook in the back with a treble hook? Anyone ever do something like this to another lure?

When you get bit are you reacting to the pressure or the splash of the fish attacking the bait?

Pressure, but it seems they are hitting the back end with no hook

May not be letting them take it all in.  You could try putting a small screw in eye in the back but it may ruin the action of the bait.

as with other topwater baits, you really have to let them take it and not force that hook set. 

are you retrieving it slowly, burning it back or somewhere in the middle?

Are you fishing it on braid?

The mini slammer is a rat wake bait and adding a stinger hook is tricky without the hook tangling.

My gues is small bass are hitting the tail. Are you waking this bait or walking the dog? If you are waking it, try walking the dog or stop and twitch watching closely which end of the bait the fish are hitting. If they are hitting the tail, go to a trick worm and catch the bass.

Sometimes they don't eat it right but I would venture to say that your hook set is premature. They don't generally hit the back of the bait. Try reeling into them until you feel the rod load.

The key to hook setting swimbait bass is allowing the bass to turn with the lure.....if they are big enough to have the lute in their mouth. Cranking to tighten thr line before rod sweeping is a good hook setting technique with swimmers and crankbaits.

I'd get a 9" and be done with it. The 7" is too thin IMO.

 

The mini is OK but the lack of a second hook is a big drawback to me.
