Thanks GMAN it looks even more alive in the direct sunlight.....We had to do something to break up the all green coloring of the old Legend blanks.....

One question, I cant tell from the pic.  Is that painted or wrapped like that.  Really either way it takes alot of ability to do that.  Just wondering.

i haven't done any work yet, i've been (and am still) keeping youngest grandson (4 yrs old) & he's about to drive me WACKY!!!     YES, i know why God gave us children while we were young. LOL   he is even less patient than I am, if possible.

but, i hope next week to spend a little time in the shop, & "play" some.    LOL - i see some flames in the future!

I just build em, she makes um perdy...You got it the wife does all of the flaming, and the marbling. She has a steadier hand than I do...

I have to give all the credit to the wife for that work, she does have a natural art talent when it comes to the marbling and those flame jobs. My hands just aren't steady enough anymore. As for pics just those 2, so no sticky for this process..

Absolutely another masterpiece! Beautiful work.   I can see now, that I will be ruining some perfectly good rod blanks trying to learn how to do this. My oldest daughter is also very artistic. Maybe a bribe will get her on board. LOL

For over 13 years of building I tried to get my wife into it some how. When I re-opened the rod building side of the shop and started splitting grips, I decided to see if there was something I could get her interested in. When I showed her how to do the first marbling job that was when she took it a couple steps further "Flames". She has done a few rods now, and the clients when ordering always ask if she is going to do the marbling/flame work on the rods for them...

I would say let her at one and see if she doesn't do the same....

you know, i keep going back & looking at David's craftmanship. ..you just DON'T do that overnight. it's professional, and, it LOOKS professional. ....a lot of "rod builders" could learn something from him ..and, i'm glad he's here to look out for us NEWBIES!!! LOL

To bad I couldn't shoot the rest of the rod (the customer was in a hurry to get it to the lake). It's a SC5 forrest green blank, with black guide wraps and double turn metallic red inlays. Makes the rod kind of look like a tree with the root base section on fire, and the guide wraps look like sparks (embers) going up the tree...

It really lights up in the sunlight...

I have never seen flames look that good. I have been around cars all my life and have only seen flames look like that on a car once. But you have some mad skills if you can do that on some thing that small. I can't even makes flames look that good on a wall. By the way when i open my own body shop you want a job?
