Super User Scott F Posted December 18, 2014 Super User Share Posted December 18, 2014 Agreed. Don't know how long he will chase me, but I know how long I will run! I know how long. If you run, you'll stop when he catches you.

I'll take my chances running where I feel I have a chance. You can stand there like dinner on a silver platter.
Super User Scott F Posted December 18, 2014 Super User Share Posted December 18, 2014 I've been in that situation more than once. The bear always ran away except for twice. One of those time, he waited for us to leave the cabin so he could get in. The bear broke into the cabin while we were fishing and trashed the place, the other time we just kept harassing him till he left.

I would think I would be more willing to stand and look intimidating if the bear seemed to me "out-numbered".

*Hank
Me and my brother had an encounter with a big black bear while fishing last year, it was about4:30 am and still dark and me and my brother were fishing with Topwaters at a local lake (Lake lopez ca) when out of the corner my I saw a bear that was about 4ft tall,I whispered to my brother "Bro there's a bear behind us" (about 30ft) at first he ignored me with a "psh" and I answered "I'm serious" I said, he finally turned around to look-he was speechless and we sat down prayed and thought about what to do and finally decided to slowly walk away back to camp luckily it didn't follow us, also during the weekend there were many other bear sittings from other campers. Glad to have come out of that safely".

endless
We had an encounter ourselves about a month ago in the Shenandoah while hiking a few trails. We took one of the horse trails after the rose river trail and seeing the falls and while on the horse trail our buddy stopped and was like "Hey bear". I was in shocked mode from fear and awww. She had two cubs with her. She didn't show no aggression signs and when we took a few steps back she proceeded on her ways stopping every ten feet or so keeping and eye on us and her cubs. Though I was very nervous I was in amazed from the beauty of these animals. Here are two photos of the bear I took and a photo of the falls
Super User bigbill Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Share Posted August 7, 2015 We were tracking a sow in the upper elevations in the green mountains of vt. Then the cub tracks came from the left in the fresh snow. The sow walked in a straight line while the cub zig zagged. The a mountainlion track was following the bear tracks. We backed out of there. Topwaterspook
One of the neighbors got a bear a mile from here yesterday. It ended up right across the road from my Son-in-law's house. We don't think it's the same one we've been seeing. According to the game warden, this one was 430 lbs. Six of the grandchildren got a chance to see it. That was a treat for them. Super User bigbill Posted December 31, 2015 Super User Share Posted December 31, 2015 I received a trail cam for Christmas. On certain nights the dog barks for a while. Since I need to take it easy the misses put it out near the bird feeders. After three days nothing but my dog, birds and the misses. We constantly find the bird feeders knocked down and empty. Next we will put it where the cracked corn and tsc deer berry blocks will be.
