Im fishing a local lake and dont have access to a boat but still can fish off the shore. The bottom of the lake has a bunch of alagae. So I figured shallow crankbaits are out...even jigs, especially football jigs...usually when I fish up here I throw plastics. I wanted to try to get away from that....what size spinnerbait would you guys suggest? I'm thinking about trying some topewater too

3/8 oz spinners is what I usually throw. 

If you going with topwater, how about a Mann's Baby Bass -1?

The new Storm Arashi wake bait has been killing it for me and only runs about 6" at the deepest, most of the time it's right on the surface. 

Yes a one minus or similar very shallow crank may work.

 

I prefer a 1/4 oz spinnerbait with decent size Colorado to run just under the surface

I wouldnt put those plastics away and definitely the spinnerbait but try all different sizes

If I'm reading this correctly, the OP is talking about LESS than 2 FOW with an algae covered bottom. That sure limits the offerings. I agree with the wake baits, maybe 1/4 or 3/8 oz spinner baits with colorado or large willow leaf blades and topwaters. I'd be interested to know if this pond has any deeper water, structure or cover. That shallow water with the algae should have a low oxygen content, prompting me to look at other spots in that pond. Another thought would be to try small poppers like for bream.

How would a drop shot not get all algaed up?

I'd try a Ragetail Toad in that shallow of water. That's what I use and have success with.

Since the bait sits above the weight suspended.

Sebile Flatt Shad....Cast a mile and it never dives deeper than a few inches....lipless crankbait that you can burn, calls em from far in dirty water, not too loud since does not have rattles, vibrates nicely, and stops on a dime right on the surface nose down, and the 77su size is my favorite this time of year as it matches the sizte of this years bluegills or if their are shad in the lake....Or go buzzbait or prop bait topwater....Wake baits as mentioned are great as well but I personally would want to fish fast to find them, then in dirty water like after an ALgae bloom, they should be together in same area, so then I would pick it apart with something slow and that is easy to find like a carolina rig or soft swimbait with large hammer tail or rattle.
