I have some powdered tungsten that a guy gave me and thought about adding it to senko style bait to get it to sink quicker. Has anyone tried this out? Reason is if I get more weight I can fish it in weeds and in deeper water I dont have to wait as long.

that would work good, but pouring it would be real difficult.  you would have to pour the plastic really cool because that tungsten powder is gonna wanna settle at the bottom of the bait.  if the powder doesnt work just add more salt

First off, I don't pour so this may be a stupid suggestion.  Can you pour into a chilled mold so it sets up fast enough that the powder doesn't settle?  Maybe from the fridge or freezer?  Just a thought.

flechero, although thats a great idea, the reason i say pour cold is that although it will settle to the bottom of the bait, if its to hot then the powder will settle in your pouring cup before you pour it unless its constantly stirred

gotcha.  Does salt do the same thing if it's poured too hot or cooled too slow?

Yes, the salt will settle in the cup as well, but it is manageable.  As far as pouring into a cold mold, that is fine on a one piece mold, but on a two  piece mold, if you don't pour right down the hole, you will have a hard time.

They might be right. Might be. I would be careful about heating the tungsten in a microwave. that might be your only problem. Instaed of asking if it would work you should just try it and find out. I am guessing if you heated your plastic on a stove or something similar instaed of a microwave it should work but since I have not personaly tried tungsten powder I am only guessing. Experimenting is the fun part of lure making. You will lern so much more from doing your own experiments than you will from other people. the exception is when you are first starting out. i would learn as much as possible from other pourers but that will only take you so far.

if it cant be put into the micro i would think it could be added just before pouring.  gonna have to pour cool and work quickly but it could be a good idea.  let us know how it comes out.

I'm going to pour Generation 2 probably between now and the weekend.  So I will see what happens.  I use a hotplate so I dont have to worry about sparks in the wave.  I will let you guys know thanks for the pointers

How about this Gman, take your 2pc mold and open it. Lay both sides head to head. Take your plastic mixture and divide it in half. Half of it sohluld remain without tingsten powder, mix the powder in the other half. Pour the regular plastic into the side that does not have the screw and fill the mold up as full as possible. Let it sit and cool so it will not run when you pick it up. Screw the mold together and then pour in the plastic with the tungsten powder. As long as the plastic is not piping hot, the powder should suspend and be fairly even throughto the half of the bait that you poured.This will give the bait its horizontal fall.

it wont work as pouring a whole senko. Atleast I couldnt keep the plastic from burning.  Earthworms Idea works great just a bit more hassle.
