Yes, MM works great for squarebills.

It really depends on the model. Med can describe quite a range of rod powers. I prefer a Med / Mod-Fast for shallow square bills

I picked up a mh mod tatula for squarebills a while back and quickly realized I hated the way it handled. It made the squarebill feel like a deep diving crank the way it pulled. I am much happier throwing my squarebills on medium mod or mod-fast.

Yes, but it depends. Weight of your cranks, cover you're tossing to, line you plan on using, etc. As mentioned already, brand of the rod will make a big difference as well as there are no real across the board standards for power and action.

Personally, I have never liked a "cranking"..... aka moderate action rod for square bills or lipless cranks. But I am mostly cranking grass. A faster action has always worked better for me.

Personally I feel like MM rods are to "whippy" and underpowered.  I use a 7'8 MHM because I throw my square bills into some messy stuff and I need the extra power to pull the fish out.

For me a faster action is better just because the square bill is being fished in cover but it doesn't mean it can't work. I just got a cranking rod a little while back, it is a 6'6" ML-M and I got it for smaller cranks and square bills for river smallmouth and the river I fish produces smallmouth over 5lbs. You medium power, moderate rod will work but you aren't going to rip baits out of grass or bang them through cover with that rod, for the bigger baits of 1/2oz and up I use a 6'10" MH-MF that allows me to bang the baits in cover and rip free from grass. So it is going to depend on how and where you are throwing them and what size baits you are going to use.

This year after doing a lot of research I changed my Squarebill and lipless crank setup. I'm using a MH Moderate rod with BRAIDS and I'm loving it! Never afraid to rip cranks out of grass and bang off branches. The braid definitely helps being more sensitive and my moderate rod does the job keeping fish hooked on. Sadly I don't crank much at all. Only in the early spring and for the next month. Like many people said, power varies from company to company but generally I prefer a stouter rod.

I depends on the lure.  If it is small around 3/8 oz, I use a M Mod-Fast G Loomis Cranbait rod.  For heavier stuff I use a MH Mod-Fast Shimano Crucial.
