What's up with BPS?

Featured Replies

I have noticed Basspro.com has been really slow for a while now and today many of the sale prices are screwy as well.  Some of the sale prices are the same as the regular prices and some of the sale prices are higher than the regular price.

I've noticed that it slowed down also.  I installed Mozilla firefox with the speedup recommendation by .......dam I cant remember his name, but it speeded up everything including BPS and BassResource.com.

My gripe with BPS is that they sell very little that isn't "mainstream".  I would like to see more diverse products for the Bass fisherman.   More Japanese imports, more cali swimbaits, etc.

I understand the expense of maintaining inventory but they are BASS pro shops and should have more stuff that we, the bass fisherman could use.

has anybody ordered anything from bps lately? their shipping is horrible, so slow 3 months ago i bought the new johnny morris baitcast reel 7:1.  5 weeks later it shows up,  then march 23, i got a 6'6" pro qualifier m/h because it was on sale 79.00 good price GREAT rod. but i got it friday april 13 really slow very unhappy >:D

My last couple of orders have consisted of a bunch of things being backordered and some that were not even backordered but they just refunded my money and I was told that I would have to check availability in the future and try to order them again. And shipping was super slow on the initial orders plus the backorders.

They are probablly growing too fast :D

I actually think that is somewhat of a good thing.  Gives the more mom and pop stores a fighting chance.  Many of them sell more of the oddball Japanese stuff.  Since I won the item from JBC in the drawing, it has made me look more into the smaller online tackle shops.  I figured I may as well buy the senkos I need from JBC instead of BPS as long as they are not much more than 50 cents a bag more.  Well, I'll be danged, but they are 50 cents a bag less.  Well.  I figure that I need to look into lots of the mom and pop stores and see what other good deals I can find.  Mainstream stuff, I stay with BPS and Wallyworld, but the oddball stuff is cheaper other places.

BTW. I ordered a 56 dollar order last night from BPS, and their site was screwing up a lot.  The catalog item number did not match some of the sale objects.  It froze a lot too.

Cabela's and Tackle Warehouse have much better websites.  At least they let you know if an item is in stock.

Hell, I tried to call in an order around 2AM Friday morning (done it many times) and I got a recorded message saying that due to staffing problems, they were unable to take my call.

Website has been slow to super-slow for the last three months.

I've always had good experiences with BPS. We have a fishing trip planned for the weekend after this. I ordered some baits, hooks, line, etc at the beginning of last week, and got it all in four days. The local store, at St Charles, Mo. is rarely out of anything I want.

Cheers,

GK

Last time I ordered I called to find out why it was taking so long.  I am assuming they have done this to save money.  Anyways their shipping process has changed.  Unless you pay more for and request the express or overnight shipping you get the standard.  Well they told me it works like this.  The items are packaged and then Fed Ex comes and picks them up.  Then they are delivered to the United States Postal Service where they are re-sorted, processed, distributed, and delivered by our local mail carriers.  Cabelas is much slower than they used to be also, I think they are doing the same thing.  My Father in law waited three weeks for his last Cabelas order.

I noticed their site was incredibly slow on my computer at work which on DSL at home Im on dial up and is d**n near impossible to use it.

BPS web site is definitely in slow mo.  Almost as slow as their shipping.  Still waiting after two weeks.  Their order history is a joke.  Shows nothing.

the BPS site works just fine for me...loads on a cable connection in about 4 seconds.

However, their shipping did seem way slow.  I ordered a package about two weeks ago now with standard shipping.  It took about 12 days to arrive, which is pretty long.  I was beginning to wonder if it had gotten lost but had no way of knowing since BPS doesn't give out tracking numbers for standard shipping.

I have not had any problems with the site or the shipping.  I ordered 3 rods, 3 reels, 2 gas tanks, and a bunch of lures.  Everything was shipped within a week (although the backordered items took about 2 weeks).  Even called to make sure I received my reward points and they took an additional 34 dollars off my order since I had accumulated those points from previous purchases.  Plus the new purchase added another 20 dollars in reward points for the next order.

I must be lucky, to live in a place with two bass fishing stores, with really considerable prices!  Everything from rapala, to local tackle are on the shelves!  Japanese imports, and Cali swim baits!  :D  I live in Lake County California, the stopping grounds of the bassmaster elite series.  I don't know how many of you have heard about that run, but they broke records, and broke them again here!  Our bass shops have been on an order frenzy since!  Swim baits have also become the most popular lure, of this lake!  BPS has recently lost my attention, due to speed!  I am using the new mozilla, and all the tricks, but still, it moves like slow dripping molasas!  As being on DSL, I hit a site in 1.7 seconds...  It's really irritating, plus the point that their prices are screwy!  I bet they are growing too big for their britches...  If so, that's ok, as the name implies, "BASS PRO STORE".  I am not a pro, so why would I need the use of a 650 dollar reel?!

Seemed a little better today, but the last week has been bad for the most part. Sometimes pages won't even come up. Glad the store is 10min away  :D

I talked to customer service last Friday because I had placed an order on Thursday and hadn't received an order confirmation by Friday mid-day. They told me that they were in the process of updating the website and that alot of things weren't working as they should but didn't give any indication about when that might be cleared up.

As for shipping I received the reels I ordered last Thursday today and my rods are scheduled to be here tomorrow according to FedEx. Can't complain about that :D

Ya there site has been really slow lately and sometimes not even loading.  I also noticed that whole sale problem.  I went to order some more LC RC cranks but now they are listed as on Sale but back at regular price like you mentioned.
