Same here hopefully. I just sold my kayak tonight. Heck I never even put it in the water after buying it a few months ago. I just realized it wasn't what I really wanted and it wasn't right for me.

It's awesome.  I also am from Southern Illinois and paddle a Wilderness Systems Ride 115.  It is just flat fun chasin them in a kayak but opens a lot of doors to a lot of waters that are inaccessible with anything else. 

I just bought an Old Town Trip 10 Angler Deluxe with paddle from a local pawn shop for $150.

 

Good for you, You're going to have a great time. I fish out of a canoe. It would be nice if there was a fishing club around here for guys with them.

I would venture to guess that is $150 of the best money you will ever spend. I spent a little under $500 for my yak and paddle and consider it one of the absolute best "investments" I have ever made! I fish boats, tubes and yaks and there are times when that is the absolute best option for a day on the water.

Congratulations, I started last year and it has changed my life for the better.

Well, I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't get to take my kayak out for the first time this weekend.

 

I live In Southern Illinois and we had a little cold front come through Friday along with some thunderstorms.

 

Early Saturday morning was going to be my only window to take it out and it was in the mid to upper 30's and Sprinkling. Given the fact that this would be my first time in a kayak and I would have also been by myself, I thought that it would be best to wait until I either have better conditions or a little more experience.

 

A tough decision but a good decision!

 

1. find a PFD that you feel comfortable wearing all the time

2. be careful in current (some of my early "near disasters" involved a kayak, current and an anchor)

3. remember "The Rule of 120" (if the combined water and air temperatures are under 120, you need to be wearing a wet suit or dry suit when kayaking)
