I saw the Savage Gear 3D Crab and I started to thinking about something.  I live very near saltwater(Chesapeake Bay), maybe 2 blocks away from the beach.  I fish a small pond that is about the same distance from the beach.  Now I have never seen them in the lake but I wonder if, maybe, there are crabs in the water.  I have been thinking about getting the Savage Gear 3D crab and give it a shot but I can't seem to find any info about crabs in freshwater.  I know that blue crabs probably are not in there(it's a swimming crab) but maybe fiddler crabs or some other type of sand crab, maybe?  Anyone else have experience with this bait and catching bass on them in lakes or have any info about crabs in freshwater?  Thanks in advance!

There's over 1300 species of scientifically described freshwater crabs, and another 2000 or so awaiting description by science.  I'd say there's probably a couple in just about every lake.  Failing that, the bait has the same profile as a turtle hatchling - a deadly bait in spring.

Think of bass as the Andrew Zimmern of fish- if it looks good, they'll eat it.  Heck, throw a squido on a shaky head and I bet it catches stuff.  It's all about the action and presentation...  With a little luck, of course

I heard shaving works.

Once again giving way too much credit to the bass' little pea brain. If it is in the water and fits in their mouth they will eat it. They dont "think" what it is.

On crabs, noo, you don't read dozens of threads on guys using them to catch LMB, would it work? Maybe,.. there are other baits I would use over a crab bait, in freshwater anyway...

Thanks for the responses fellas.  I guess I am going to be ordering some to try them out.  Francho, true they do look like baby turtles as well, never thought about that either.  I love this place, you guys always have great info!

I'm not sure about up north..... but I see blue crabs way way way up freshwater rivers, all year long .

I know with 100% certainty that a tidal river bass will actively hunt and eat fiddler crabs.

If your wandering about crabs sit on a few truck stop toilets, that will teach you real quick.
