Hybrid Rod

Featured Replies

2 piece rods are pretty cool for this. I had a cabelas tourney rod (a stiff rod).which also had a bad broken tip. Then I had a daiwa sweepfire (a very whippey rod). I kept the handle part of the Cabelas rod and used the sweepfire top half. Some rigging and epoxy later I have a pretty neat Frankenstein rod with a flexible tip and a great backbone. I'll be using it for cranks. Feels good hope it stays in shape... If it don't work out I'll just put the sweepfire back together. Im excited to use it.

Just tried it today works beautifully. Didn't get a fish on it yet though. Otherwise it cast and handles nice.

Easy answer, bass were afraid of your Frankenstein rod, just spooked them.

I've done that by accident a couple times (minus the epoxy)...

Custom builders do stuff like this somewhat regularly to get specific actions they want. There are so many good blanks out there though I haven't had the need personally. Great way to make use of what may otherwise get scrapped.

Tis the season for Frankenstein..

Use to do it all the time when I didn't have a job and didn't know how to take care of rods!
