Micro Swivels/connectors?

Featured Replies

I do a lot of hiking/fishing, and I use a St Croix 3-piece rod.  The problem I'm having is the time it takes to assemble/dis-assemble my rig when I get to a spot of water.  I'd really like to have some sort of micro swivel quick-connector that's small enough to fit through the eyes on the rod so that I'm not constantly tying knots when I take the rig apart to move to a new location.  Can anyone recommend a product, or homemade type rig that'd work for me?

spro powerswivels are micro and strong but running those thru yer guide eyes may scratch/damage the eyes..

I was thinking those and a hyper-snap would work, but wasn't sure if the swivels were small enough.  I'll grab some and try it out.

Blackbird makes some VERY strong micro swivels.  I occasionally reel them through the guides of my steelhead float rods.  Not recommended, but hasn't been a problem.

Leave the line through the guides when you take the rod part, use a short length of expando sleeve (rod glove) to hold the rod sections together with the reel mounted. If that doesn't work for you, simply tie a loop on the end of the line and attached clip after you thread the the loop through all the guides.

I've tried that......it's usually a tangled mess when I go to put the rod back together.

If I'm using swivels it's a shorter leader and don't want a swivel going thru the guides.  Take the rod apart and use a velcro wrap, should not be a problem.

Yea the velcro would work I have used them my self for things. I have tons of them from panasonic telephone systems. They are like the ones on say your laptop power supply. I have used them to hold rods together or hold a big bait like a Hudd or something so I don't have to hook it to something or wrap my line around my handle.

I have these super tiny ones I never use but I didn't know the name. Well I found them first thing I type into google "fishing small lure snap" lol

You just pull it over the eye and it snaps on. They are super tiny but its hard to get them off once there on. I guess after reading reviews on them lots of guys use them for fly fishing.

You tried a rod glove and still had issues with line tangling? Velcro can also snag line, with a 3 piece rod a simple rubber band holds 1end together, the rod glove holds everything together.

I back packed and road a dirt bike with a 4 piece fly rod for decades and kept it strung and in a cloth case in a tube without any issues.

Speed clips may work, difficult to change lures with.

The things I posted are not speed clips but they would probably work and are the smallest snap I know of. I only tried them once and the lures I was using probably had kind of a thick eye so i had to pull the clip off with my needle nose. I just happened to see them and they were only $.99 for like 10 so why not.

Those are for snapping leaders together. Crestliner uses them for quick rigging drop shots.

Like a quick connector. They snap together. Tie up a bunch of leaders with it at the end, and tie one up to your main line. C-rigs, wacky rigs, drop shots, etc. my buddy uses them for drop shots.

I would have to look at them again in person. It said on the package they are for lures. That your just supposed to pull it over the eye. They nap on around the eye and are on there pretty good. They were for the couple things I tried it on to test it. I had to grab it with pliers and pull it off back the other way.

Netcraft makes what you are referring to. They make them in 3 sizes. Most often I use the medium size (#2's). They do great with panfish jigs and making quick leader attachments.
