Weird Story While Fishing

Featured Replies

Went out to the local pond today, brought my two favorite combo's with me. When I'm fishing with one, I lay the other one beside me.

Make about my third or fourth cast, Paying attention to my line and the next thing I see is a about a five year old with my other combo in her hands. Dad runs toward us yelling "Put it down it's not yours". Dad grabs a hold and the daughter won't let go, then the younger daughter starts

yelling "I wanna hold it, I wanna hold it",I now have a family of three fighting over my 350+ combo...What the heck, all I could do was shake my head afterwards, poor guy was probably a single Dad.

When you discover later tonight that your wallet is missing, you will realize those were actually midgets, not children and you fell for the ol' "pretend I want to hold the fishing pole" scam.

Did you push any of them into the water?  :)

A spot I fish at people are always around looking for drift wood on the bank. There have been a few times they have come close to stepping on a rod or two. Makes me glad I have a boat. Glad your combo got away unharmed.

Next time help the guy out. Would have been a great opportunity to introduce them to fishing by showing them how to properly hold it and maybe even make a cast for them and let them reel it in.

Next time that happens, push them in the water once you have a firm grasp on your rod.

Seems little ones are drawn to fishing rods. I was at our local tackle store dropping off some baits a few weeks ago when my son snatched a little Falcon spinning rod off the overhead rack while I was talking to the owner. I couldn't hardly pry his little fingers off the rod. He wasn't hurting anything (minus a little drool maybe), so I let him hold it, which he did for several minutes and even posed for a picture with it. His obvious excitement while he was holding it gives me lots of hope :)

Belle loves baitcaster reels. I will have to post pics.

It seems like people walk 20 yards out of their way when I'm bank fishing, just to come over and make me nervous that they may step on one of my rods.

Oh I would die or hurt someone.  I don't have any rods like that by my wife freaks out if anyone gets close to my fishing stuff.  Unless she knows it's the cheap stuff.

Awkward!

Reminds me of the time I was at an acquaintances house.  I had made the "error" of letting his 4 year old son hold whatever it was I had in my possession (it could have been about anything-I can't remember now).  Anyway, It's time to leave and I pick up the object.  Boy makes a grab for it, yelling "Mine!  Mine!" (or something to that effect).  in retrospect, I should have just let go of it and asked his father (who was right there) to deal with it. Instead, unfortunately, there we were in this "death struggle" for some stupid item.  Father just looks at us stupidly.  (Later, after I won the battle, I made a face at the little boy and kicked him in the shin)

$350 combo at a pond?

How about scaling down to a BPS or Cabela's set up for far less?

I keep my G. Loomis and other high end rods at home when I fish a pond and get great results with a BPS Extreme medium heavy baitcaster and spinning rod with a $99 or less costly reel attached.

It is also wise to wait for the BPS sale when they reduce the Extreme rods to $80.

Nothing personal, but it is a pond.

Sam, I totally understand what your saying. I was out testing if my new reel could handle light weight lures. I had time and took it, a pond 2 miles from home. ;)
