I know this has probably been discussed.  I have a new Curado I baitcaster.  I know it is related to the brakes. On cast, it screeches.  Sometimes the full cast sometimes just partial.  I have 2 of the 4 brakes engaged.  I heard you can go down to 1 and it stops.  Is this a design flaw or the improper grease/oil from factory?

 

Think Curado wouldn't have this problem being so expensive.  It still casts fine just annoying as all getout

Look over your manual and they advise you on this. You have to make sure the brake drum is cleaned and lightly oiled after frequent use. If you fail to do that, the screeching will begin. I know its annoying but other than that its a pretty good reel. 

Oil your brass drum, read the info that came with the reel if you have it, states oil after 5 outings I believe...

well I got one of these to compare to my Tatulas.  May just have to stick with all Tatulas.  Not impressed at all so far.  

Periodic cleaning of the drum and shoes on a reel with centrifugal brakes is SOP. A swab with some alcohol followed by film of light oil should take care of it. Depending on conditions I wouldn't be surprised for that to last more than 5 outings. 

5 outings was a miscommunication between Shimano US and Japan. If you put oil on a qtip and oil the brake drum, the screeching will stop. Mine have last about 3 months without acting up again and show no signs. Just oil it then fish it till it screams again.

I've found that in general, the guys who fail to read the manual are the one's who seem to have the most problems. 

 

As listed numerous times, wipe the brake drum off, put a drop of oil on there, and you'll have no problems at all. 

Treat it just like a squealing fan belt - spit on it!
