Got A Aetos Flipping Stick! Small Problem Though...

Featured Replies

Just purchased a slightly used good condition Aetos for $75 on Kijjiji.  It's in great shape, but one guide has a small milimeter crack in the epoxy right under the guide.  I was wondering if I could just apply some 5 minute epoxy on without sanding the rod?  Or are there better options for covering this tiny crack?  I just don't want this crack to get any bigger or effect the performance of the rod.

Thanks

I've used some quick set epoxy to fix loose guides before with no issues. It doesn't look quite as pretty as a professional job but it cost me a fraction of the price and I had my rod back in action almost immediately.

A crack in the epoxy normally won't hurt, if you are worried a small amount of 2 part epoxy over it will make it better but it really isn't necessary.

Is it a crack in the Flexcoat? I would NOT put epoxy on it if that is so.  If it gets worse, have a rod builder replace the wraps and Flexcoat. As long as the guide is firmly put, it should be fine.

If you ever want the guide repaired properly, do not just slap on some random 2-part epoxy. Go to a place that sells rod builder supplies and buy some flexcoat or threadmaster finish.

Got this rod second hand?  Original owner got a receipt?  Reason I ask is that Fenwick Aetos rods have a lifetime guarantee.  I an not sure if that guarantee is transferable or not.  Me, I'd just use it til it breaks.  Hopefully that is several years down the road.  The last Aetos I broke (totally my fault) cost me $10 and some postage and I got a new one.

Yes it is used but sadly didn't get the receipt.
