Assemble A New Smallie Setup.

Featured Replies

I live in Alabama and only fish Tennessee River lakes. Put together a 3 rod setup and any tackle you would include.

1 6'6 Spinning Setup w/30# braid for finesse baits. If you fish the Tennessee river chain a good 7' medium casting setup w/a 5.4:1 reel for cranking is a good idea too. That and a braid ready rod and reel setup if you plan on throwing umbrella rigs.

All three of mine would be M to ML spinning rigs for drop shot.

1. 6'10 mlxf spinning for dropshot

2. 6'8 mf / mxf casting for jerkbaits and weightless

3. 7'1mhf casting for jigs, t rigs, spinnerbaits.

Personally I do not see a need to go heavier than medium action spinning rigs. I have one 7' medium action for jigs/blade biats/jerkbaits. One 6'6" ML for drop shotting and one 7' ML for light jigs/Senko fishing. These 3 set-ups have served me very well over many, many seasons.

Id use a Phenix m1 7'2m with a stradic ci4 in 2500 and a phenix x10 crankbait with a shimano core 6:4:1 and a phenix m1 7'2mh with a shimano chronarch 7:1:1

On the Tennessee River the A-Rig is very effective fall through spring = Heavy Baitcasting gear

Fishing ledges in deep water with 10" worms and 1 oz jigs = MH or H Baitcasting gear

I prefer M or MH baitcasting gear for most treble hooks

Weightless and lightly weighted soft plastics, tubes, dropshot and live bait = Medium spinning gear

2 casting rods and 1 spinning for me. One 7'-7'6" medium moderate for crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwaters, blade baits, and small swimbaits with treble hooks. One 7'-7'6" medium heavy to heavy fast action rod (something versatile like a Dobyns Champion 734) for jigs, texas rigs, Carolina rigs, and small swimbaits. Finally, one 6'8"-7' spinning rod with 6-8 lb line for dropshots, shakeyheads, tubes, small senkos, ball head jigs, etc.
