Which Phenix Rod?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to decide between the recon2 713 or the m1 7'2" ml.  Both are comparable in price.  I need a finesse rod for my pxl r.  I want to get this during the sales so I need some help.  Thanks.

I have the M1. Very nice rod. I don't have the other so i can't speak for it. But id definitely own another m1

Recon is considered the more sensitive rod of the two. It may boil down to moving baits or bottom contact baits. Both are good rods for the money but I would probably take the Recon of the two especially if plastics, jigs, or weightless baits were on the slate. It has sort of that JDM build to it plus the action is touch parabolic without being noodlish if that makes sense. I use my Recon 714 for quite a bit of techniques and it does a great job. Only knock I have on the rod is the hook keeper and the position.

^^^ the recon 2 has it in a different spot and it's a different style keeper.

I have the 713 paired with my px68. It's super light and very fun to fish with. It's handled a large assortment of baits. I picked it over the m1 because I like it's reel seat better. Also from feedback on here from other members.

I would go with the M1. It's my favorite. You should also look at what Dobyns has to offer. Great rods!

My buddy has both and he says the M1 has a bit faster taper than the recon 2. I haven't fished either but I love the way the recon 2 looks

I have both. Braid with leader I would go with the Recon (slower taper). The M1, is more of what I would call a regular fast taper.

Also the M1 trigger is up closer to the reel so, depending how you hold your set up,the M1 can be uncomfortable. I personally rarely use my M1 cause it pinches my fingers together.
