Anti Reverse On Pq Slipping Slightly

Featured Replies

On a couple of my three year old PQ's, I noticed that after the annual cleaning the anti reverse is slipping VERY slightly, and the spool will turn backward maybe a millimeter or so. I thought maybe I overlubed them, so I cleaned them again and applied less lube, and they are still doing it. When I have the spools out and the tension knob bearing out, I notice the pinion gear will turn backward just slightly. So I'm not sure where the problem lies. Thinking of sending then to Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle.

Any suggestions?

Place the inner tube of the ARB on the crankshaft and check it for any play.  If it has any play at all it will allow the spool to move in reverse slightly.

Figured it out nevermind.

Yup, this is the cause for the "normal" back play. Flushing the AR bearing thoroughly may take more than one try especially after 3 years.

Any "play" from the AR tube on the crankshaft would limited by the amount drag pressure.

I'd be curious as to ice's solution.

Very good point.  What can happen is that the ARB stops the innertube from moving immediately but the crankshaft has the ability to move in reverse because of the slight variance in size  and the leverage that the handle provides.

I think it would be considered as normal if this were what was causing his problem.

Reels have inner tubes? ;)

Reels have inner tubes? ;)

I believe that is the correct nomenclature for the part.

Too much oil had gotten into the AR bearing. Cleaned it and that solved it.
