So after reading a recent post about hair jigs, I decided to attempt making a dozen or so myself.  The results look no where near as professional as W W puts together, but for my first try, i'm happy with the results.  Here are a few 1/8oz. bucktails;

If you hadn't said, I never would have guessed it was your first attempt - they are exceptionally good for a first batch and all will catch fish.

 

Now, as you've no doubt noted, you see how thread pressure flares the material and how it will move around the hook shank as well.

 

Take your time, think through each step and practice, practice, practice. 

They will work!!!! I'd fish them for sure and I've been tying for awhile, nice job!!!

I picked up some raw material to keep busy with this winter (jig heads, hair, feathers,etc.), but haven't done any research yet. Do you have recommdations for videos or books?

The ones I tie look like crap but they catch fish which is all that matters.

 

Bear hair on a football head with a F12 weedguard is my favorite.

Not bad for your first ones!!!  As you practice more you'll get them filling out more and with different kinds of hair you'll know how each re-acts to thread pressure.  

 

Trust me they don't have to look store bought - the fish will tell you how good you're doing and they're the ones that count.
