Tatula Spinning: Ported?

Featured Replies

Got a tatula spinning rod for xmas and noticed above the reel seat, two holes beside each other. Do they serve any purpose? Is it just for weight reduction?

I'd be guessing it's just for weight reduction and aesthetic value.

Let me rephrase...above the rod in the reel seat.

Haven't seen the rod but the only functional reason I can guess at would be some sort of hook keeper. Graphite seats are pretty light as they come and positioned in the least critical area as far as weight is concerned.

Daiwa website for tatulas has a picture where it's slightly noticeable.

That's the design of the reel seat, it's exclusive to Daiwa.  All of the Tatula and new Zillion seats are like that.  I'm sure it's for weight reduction as the seat is wider than standard reel seats and it gets covered by the hood.
