How Much Does This Fish Weigh?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

This is my personal best by far and I was furious because I didn't have my scale. I have a picture of it right next to my shoe, which is 12 inches exactly and estimate the fish to be about 22 inches long. Any guesses?

Thanks

C

Thats what I thought too.

5.5lb.... Give or talk a half lb

According to your profile that is not your PB.

I'd give it 5 1/2 or 6. Nice fish!

Looks bigger on the ground than when you're holding her. I guess it's the same bass. My guess is 5.12. Now tell us your guess :)

I'm with the 5 pound guesses, give or take.

I think 5lbs is a really safe ballpark. Nice fish!

Thank you for all the feedback guys! My guess was about 6 pounds and the that's why it's PB says 6-7 because I thought she might hit six but according to the majority she probably wouldn't have.

Indeed, they are the same fish and it looks bigger on the ground because I hold my fish close to my body so I don't overshoot my guess on how much she weighs when I look back on the picture. Obviously, I was about a pound over even though she was a chunk. I thought she was pretty big coming out of a small pond in Maryland. Anyways, thanks for the feedback and hope you guys have tight lines this year!

PS~I bought two scales soon after so I wouldn't have this situation again.

A man with two scales is never sure what his bass weighs but a man with one scale always knows the exact weight of his bass :)

Hard to say, it is a fantastic catch. I would range it in the 4.5 to 5.5 range but like every one has said it is tough to guess. If she had a spawning belly she may well have hit 6.

In all fairness, I did not know your PB in your profile was referencing that fish.  I thought you were saying that the pictured fish was your new PB making it bigger than 7 lbs.  I think your fish could push 6lbs.

No worries :)

Solid 5 to 5 1/2 lb fish, looks like it has some beef to that belly. Nice catch!

That comparison to your shoe size gives a good clue. 12" shoe,  that fish looks a good 8-9 inches longer, so 5 1/2 seems a high probability.

right around 6

Nonetheless, it was nice fish. Now that you bought two scales hopefully you will not be caught in that predicament again. The good news however, since you have new scales. You will start to develop any eye for fish weights now. From now on,  your fish weight perspective will definitely change. Congrats on the catch.

Using the length to the third power, divided by 1600 would make it around 6-6 and this formula is fairly accurate when I have used it with a scake
