I don't ever throw them but you wearing them out on Gville Tim?

I learned from roadwarrior's advice to rig them

"straight" and "backwards" Texas style.

Normally throw them weightless. Have had some

success, and believe it or not, more with crappie

than bass I think. Caught some 2 pound crappie

on them.

Don't throw much anymore, but hey, that's my story

and I'm stickin' to it.

Hey Jordan, No I haven't been but I'm ready to go my first tournament is Feb. 7. I did see your picture with a Pickwick monster very nice.

Ok thanks for the comments I've never used them myself, might give them a try sometime.

I've never used them but I have read that they are similar to the Damiki Hydra (which I have also not used but just ordered a bunch).  I was watching some youtube videos on them and those baits fished with the Neko Rig look pretty rad.  You may consider trying that or at least searching it

Just not Owner 4/0 wide gap plus or 4/0 Rig n hook. IKA doesnt go well with these hooks from my experience.

A few that have worked well

Trokar TK110 EWG 4/0

VMC fast grip wide gap 4/0

Gamakatsu Deep throat 4/0- there is much more open area between the body and the hook shank compared to the Owner so the ika can compress more exposing the point better

The "Rig n' Hook" (4/0 is good) seems to work best for me. I rig it backwards with no weight. It's plenty heavy enough for casting or pitching. Just make sure you are using at least a med-heavy rod and some stout braid (with a fluoro leader of course). This is one of those special baits that just has to be in your arsenal.

4/0 EWG Trokar rigged backwards...problem solved

Do yall throw these on spinning gear?

I have but not regularly.  A Croix 7'6" Elite M/F with 10# PPS8S. The rod has a good backbone and the no stretch helps with loooong cast hook-ups.  You will get long casts with this lure on spinning gear. The lure though will spin a lot creating line twist so this coupled with spinning reel I would be careful/mindful with other line types.

I prefer/have a dedicated bc set-up for ikas.

I use the same gear for all weightless soft plastics: 7' MF spinning rod,

2500 series reel, #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid and 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu Offset

Worm Hook.

I use LTBC 7'1"MF, Shimano Citica 201.

I've thrown it on a number of different rods, including a Dobyns Dx 742c, 703sf, 744c, and 735c. I believe I've even seen Gary Dobyns talking about throwing the Ika on a 736c. It's one of my favorite soft plastics to throw. It has good weight and, IMO, is very versatile for a plastic that I fish weightless.

(Semi)slack line presentations are easier with spinning tackle IMO. Spinning doesn't automatically equal wimpy. I haul in some impressive salad on lighter rods than most would fish in a given spot.

Surprised no one mentioned the 4/0 Owner Twistlock. Rigs nicely backwards and you get more bites per bait. I use spinning gear and skip docks and overhangs
