Power/action Of Rod More Important Than Brand

Featured Replies

I don't really look at the brand of a rod when I buy it. The most important thing is to get the right Power in the rod. Generally speaking, fishing baits on the bottom( Jigs, Texas Rig, Dropshot) I love stiff rods. Those light whippy rods allow you to feel nothing on the bottom. Go with stiff rods for baits on the bottom.

If you're a fan of technique specific rod power/actions mixing brands can be a real benefit. Seem like each lineup has a few standouts and other models, maybe not so much. Same reason I don't build every rod on the same brand blank.

Each rods action, tip speed, bend, taper, and flex serve certain purposes in terms of fishing a particular bait as effective and efficient as possible. With that being said I like to purchase a brand I know builds clean rods. Warranty comes into play as well. Lot more to it than finding the right power IMO.

If you like it, use it.

The majority of rods are well constructed.

The ones you like, after attaching your reel to them to see how they feel, are the ones for you.

I see guys fishing yellow, white, orange, black, green and other color rods.

And they all catch bass.

Personal preference leads the way.

Right on Sam.

I bought a Winston 12 weight fly rod. Always wanted it. I can cast a broomstick just as far.........But I really loved it. Totally useless.

Gave it away after many non use years.

I think for fishing purposes the Power and Action are more important than the brand. To me, customer service and warrenty are by far two of the most important parts of the brand, when looking at rod.

You can generally find any power and action you want in multiple brands.   It's more important to me to find the characteristics you really like, in a rod brand that you can afford and go from there.
