Rod Building Suppliers

Recommended Posts

My newly started business partner and I are interested in becoming a wholesaler with a rod building company. We are starting a custom soft plastic, jig, crankbait, and rod shop. Nothing big, and we are both keeping our town jobs! So in that, we will not have a storefront, but would like to become a wholesaler to at least try and make prices a little cheaper for people. I have been ordering from Mudhole, but the shipping all the way to Iowa is a little cashy, and takes a little while. We only project to sell about two dozen rods in a year, so like I said, we are not going to be able to spend $5000 a year with a company. Who is the best company to get with in a wholesale program? Thanks Guys

I've been buying from Bingham Enterprises for over 10 years. Karen is nice and real easy to deal with.

Do you have a wholesale account with Mudhole? Their shipping rates are better for wholesalers.

We do not have an account with them yet, we are waiting on our tax ID number... like I said, we are pretty green

Building rods for myself and a few friends, I've gotten most of my blanks from Bingham Enterprises.  It's a small operation in ?Kansas? and Karen gives great service to customers but shipping times are so-so because they often have blanks mailed to the buyer direct from the half a dozen rod blank makers they represent. I think an important question you have to ask yourself is what brands of blanks you want to employ in your business, as end users most often want a specific brand and model blank for their custom rod.

I am going to have to look around and most likely consider batson...I am not having the best time with mudhole. They can be awesome, have a package at my door in three days, and ive seen them all the way out to 4 days before they even ship my stuff...

Let me see Iowa - winter time, think, think, think.......ummmmm shippers might have a slower delivery time in the winter  :eyebrows: .  Last packages I got from my supplier were held up in Memphis for days by Fed Ex due to snow and ice - now many nor-easters are we having this year..

Your going to find not any one suppler can get you everything you want, their is no "ultimate source" nor is the "holy grail" real. Your going to have to set up several "wholesale" accounts. Karen is great to deal with when you can reach her, Baston changes blanks regularly, Mud Hole has high shipping at retail (their wholesale shipping is actually cheap) but they are proud of their wholesale account - getting a wholesale account their is not as easy as others, Lance at Swampland can get most anything and his shipping is reasonable.

Before you get in the "Business" you had better do some more homework on paying FET (Federal Exsize Tax), sales tax and book keeping needs.  Honestly, a part time rod building business is not a good business to be in - it's like being a part time doctor - your either a doctor or just another guy with an opinion.  BUT if you slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night you might want to start a rod building business!!  :respect-059:
