I'd like to buy a nice reel this month for use with a dx744 for 3/8-3/4 ounce jigs. Would the core 50mg be a good choice? I know some will recommend a Metanium, but if really like to try a 50 size shimano, especially one with such great reviews plus a high gear ratio for jigs and worms. I'm really only concerned about line capacity. How many yards of 12-14 lb sunline sniper will it hold?

That's the combo I use for jigs that size. I have 12lb tatsu on the reel. I'm not sure how many yards but its enough.

I use one on one my jig rods. It is a great all around reel though the weight, profile, and line capacity makes folks think it is a finesse reel. It is phenomenal reel and well put together for any plastic or jig techniques.

I'm going to be getting the new Orochi XX Diablo Spec R and debating a Metanium or another Chronarch CI4+ to pair with it. I've not had the pleasure of handling the Met but really psyched to possibly get one. I intend to use the pairing for finesse jigs/jigs 1/4 oz plus trailer and under 1/2oz, trigs including worms and creatures, swim jigs, and occasionally anything else it might be handy for like a spinnerbaits or buzzbait. Would you be comfortable using something like 14 lb Super FC Sniper or 40 lb braid on the Met? I'm unsure how it will handle the heavier line and how only having 85 or 90 yds of will affect IPT. I'm not generally fishing super gnarly cover so may just need to trust in some 12lb Tatsu.

Appreciate any input you could share.

Thanks for the response, let me try and ask a different way to make sure I'm not being really dumb. I thought that if I was using heavier line on a longer cast, leaving less line on the spool then lighter line would, would effectively reduce my initial IPT? Is that not the case, or so negligible not to matter? I appreciate the education.

I'm hoping to see how well my Chronarchs perform when I get them back from you may help convince me to stick with another CI4+.

Lighter line on a long cast and the spool is 1/2 full at the end of it. Do to being able to hold more line because the diameter is smaller. It does make sense when you think about it. Curious to hear the answer myself. I don't put too much thought into ipt or gear ratio.

Sniper seems to have a smaller diameter than most other lines. I use #16 sniper and it has a diameter of .014. #14 would probably be around .013 or maybe even .012. My Chronarch 51e holds plenty of #40 pp or #16 sniper. I can't cast 80-100 yards. I think you'd be fine.

You are correct on your understanding. Imo ratio and ipt are way over thought to begin with and the amount of change during a cast is inconsequential. If you feel the need speed up initially or slow down toward the end you can always do that, but again I don't feel it necessary.

Thanks the comparison to the 51e and how those line capacities have worked out is helpful. I imagine if folks are happy with that diameter line on a 51e I shouldn't have any issues with it on the Met or CI4+.

IMO the Core 50MG7 is no better than the Chronarch Ci4+ and not as good as the Metanium. Plus, the Met can be had cheaper from Japan. The Core is a good reel, but I sold mine as I didn't even find it much better than my Curado 50E. The Met is as easily palmable as the Core50MG7 to me and I have small hands if that helps with your decision.
